Good morning, my friends. If you don't recognize that acronym in the title, then you should know that it stands for Fabric Acquisition Road Trip. That took up most of the day yesterday. We were up and out early to run some errands, and then we made the half-hour drive south to The Cotton Patch, where they have a "backing day" at the end of each month. Bring in a finished quilt top, get 25% off any backing fabric. As it turns off, they were celebrating "Small Business Saturday," and so everything in the store was 25% off. Even better!
So, I was on the hunt for a backing fabric for the Merry, Merry Snowmen.
Fabrics selected, we made our way home. Along the way, we caught this pretty view of Mt. Hood. It was the first sunshine we'd seen in days, and so the mountain was a welcome sight.
It's a wonderful story, mostly set in the Australian outback. Interesting and engaging characters. In my reading, I learned that sheep have a strong tendency to flock. AI tells me that it's a survival instinct rooted in their social and gregarious nature as prey animals. This behavior helps them stay together for safety in a group, as predators are more likely to target individuals on the edges of the flock. When a sheep is separated, it becomes agitated and will often cry out for the group. Knowing that, the name of the quilt project makes even more sense.
Okay, and with my slow-stitching finished, I managed to eek out one more block for the Stair Steps project.
Also on today's agenda, I'll make a back for the Merry, Merry Snowmen. That won't take long. After that, I'll get to work making another row for the Gumballs quilt. I'm having fun with this project. Here's what I have so far:
I haven't started sewing the blocks together for this, but I believe I will when I have the next row finished.
With this being the last day of November, I want to do a little Christmas baking. Today I'll make some Gingerbread Biscotti. I make biscotti in all kinds of combinations, but the gingerbread is our favorite. It has bits of slivered almonds and crystallized ginger. Biscotti isn't hard to make, but it's made in stages, and so it takes some time. I have some other Christmas baking I want to do this year, but I'll do it a little at a time.
So that's a good day ahead of me. I need to eat some breakfast, and then get busy with my slow-stitching. I've missed several days of workouts, and so I'll get back to that today too.

Glad the fabric acquisition was a success! I have a runner pattern that is very close to the one you will make. Your fabric choices look good to me! Pretty view of Mt. Hood!
Those sheep are so cute! And yes, they do bunch up together. We spent 10 years trying to make a go of my husband's family farm - with 750 ewes, plus cattle and horses. As a city girl, I had a huge culture shock moving to a farm/ranch. So your sheep embroidery really brought me a chuckle. That Christmas runner will be gorgeous in those fabrics. Awesome choices.
You must get the same excitement as we in W WA get when Mt Rainier shows us her glory during the few winter sun breaks

Perfect backing choice for the snowmen quilt--just right, Barbara!
the Stair Steps pattern is really looking great, too...hugs, Julierose
You found some great fabrics for both projects. I really like the red you picked up. A good red is hard to find. Hope you got your backing done and moved back into the sewing room.
I like the pattern you’ve found for the table runner. The fabrics you selected will make a lovely Christmas runner. I can relate to not being excited about Christmas fabrics, though as I’ve tried several times to make a Christmas quilt only to give up when I couldn’t settle on fabric.
Thank goodness for Smitty !
The weather was very wintery this weekend. My F.A.R.T. was horribly put aside . I finished the huge 18" block of hst and then (gasp) started cleaning the sewing room for the next new project.
I'm working on a Kona BOM that I *finally* managed to snag the pattern set. Thank You US Fabric shop in NC.
Your F.A.R.T. sounds like fun, but you didn't buy as much fabric as I thought you would have. Interesting about the blah holiday fabrics. Mentally, I was thinking a few months back I had seen several Christmas Fabric collections which were lovely. I'm now looking for backing for some holiday table runners and pretty much exhausted my online sources this morning (everything was blah). I may put on some warm clothes and head out to my local quilt shops, but they are quite small and don't tend to carry holiday fabric. It might cause me to do another pass thru my stash to see if I can force something to work, which I dislike doing. Darn, as when I started cutting I thought I had enough for backing....but ended up using my backing fabric up before I needed to cut backing. Silly me.
