Swift River, Yukon Territory, Canada

Good morning, my friends. We took an easy day on Thursday. Now we're rested up and ready to make our way home. From here on, we'll be driving, driving, driving and we'll expect to reach home by August 2nd. There will still be a little bit of summer left for us to enjoy when we reach our own place. For now, we find ourselves in a rustic RV park in Swift River, Yukon Territory. Sorry for such a crappy picture. Sometimes I have to be quick with my shutter finger.

And I was wrong again (hard to believe, I know), but we are still traveling the Alaska Highway (aka the Alcan to many). We won't turn south on the Cassiar Highway until we pick up our journey this morning.

Leaving Whitehorse, we first crossed over the Yukon River.

It was raining a good part of the day, although the sun came out for a while after we'd reached our final destination. Since we've traveled this road before, I didn't take a lot of pictures. If you'd like to see the things we noticed when we traveled toward Alaska, you can read my post about this section of road right here.

We drove past Marsh Lake. The lakes in this part of the Yukon are huge.

Eventually, we crossed a tall bridge over the Teslin River.

It feeds the enormous Teslin Lake. We camped here on our way to Alaska. It was a lovely spot. You can read about it right here.

This area is the home of the Tlingit tribe. This museum was on the wrong side when we drove through the first time. Now that we're heading in the other direction, I was able to capture this mural on the wall.

We were nearly to our final destination when we crossed this bridge over Nisutin Bay. We had to follow a pilot car when we traveled through here the last time. There was no pilot car yesterday, but work on replacing the bridge continues. You can see the new bridge on the left side of the image below.

We had just a few more kilometers to reach our final destination, and we spent just one night here. Smitty recognized this as a good place to get out and sniff around. We pretty much have this place to ourselves, so he spent plenty of time roaming our campsite.

Sadie kept watch from our back window.

She'll be happy to be home soon where she'll be able to get out and run around outside too. They're always kind of funny when we return home from a long trip. They already seem to know we're home when we open the door to the RV. They'll run all the way around the house, but then right away, they'll want to be let inside. Then, they'll run all around the inside of the house making sure everything is as it should be. (In truth, Mike and I probably do something similar.)

Already I've spent some time with the Milepost marking points of interest once we turn south. Although we've been heading toward home for the past several days, it feels as if we're really on our way now that we'll be driving due south. Hopefully, I'll have something new to share in tomorrow's post. For now, it's time to be on our way. As the roads improve, we'll be driving faster. Be sure to buckle up.

Should we also fasten bra straps and remove dentures for this part of the trip, too? Smitty & Sadie are checking their 'messages' when they run round the outside of the house when released.

Hope the miles fly by and you are home soon! Those last few days on the road can get long!
