Good morning, my friends. This morning we're in the Pine Lake Campground, one of the Yukon's government campgrounds. We stayed at this same campground on our way to Alaska...in the same space, in fact. I don't have anything to say about the campground this time around, but you can read my post from our first visit right here. It’s also the post that reverses today’s route that will end with us in Whitehorse.
And, boy, was I wrong when I said we were finished with the rough roads. Yesterday's drive was the third day of absolutely awful roads. We're through it now though...I promise. You can loosen your bra straps again. And if you're one of my men friends...do whatever is appropriate. I wouldn't want to presume anything where male anatomy is concerned.
So yesterday's journey began under dark gray clouds, and it was raining hard at times. The sky began to clear around mid-morning, and we finished our drive under sunny skies.
We weren't even halfway when it was time for lunch, and we both badly needed some coffee. We stopped here for lunch and naps.
There was a viewpoint. I don't know this for a fact, but I feel fairly certain the Kluane River is glacial melt from the Kluane Glacier. Where we were, there wasn't much to see. It consists of a lot of glacial silt.
Even in this next image that looks to the right, there was just a tiny bit of water visible on the right side of the frame.
I did appreciate this nod to the Kluane First Nation people.
No doubt the Kluane River drains into Kluane Lake. And if you were paying attention first time around, then you know Kluane Lake is the largest lake in the Yukon, covering 154 square miles.
Looking out my window, I saw these mountains. Still as impressive as ever.
When we were set up in the campground, Smitty desperately wanted to get out for some more of that Mewkon grass.
Sadie enjoyed Smitty's walk from the sunshine streaming in the back window.
We relaxed for the rest of the day. I was happy to receive this image from my neighbor. She picked these blueberries from our bushes at home.
We planted those bushes about five years ago. This is the most blueberries they’ve ever produced. I’m just glad someone was there to enjoy them.
As mentioned, today's journey will take us to Whitehorse. We'll have two days in Whitehorse...again, we need more groceries, and we need to collect ourselves. I'll probably do another load of laundry there too. We're hoping for better roads for the day's drive. And, really, I think we're through the worst of it now. Having not traveled south on the Cassiar Highway yet, I don't have a good idea what the road is like there. Not knowing can actually be a good thing since it seems nobody in the Alaska Facebook groups has been complaining about it. No news about the road is probably good news. We're told it's very scenic.
So, with that, we'll be on another day's backtracking drive. We'll have some new material and new scenery for you soon. For now, sit back and enjoy the less bumpy ride. When we drove this road the first time, we saw quite a bit of wildlife. We’re hoping for a repeat performance today.

Sorry about the bumpy roads, but I too am hopeful for smooth travels and sunshine as you continue south. Scenery is lovely and I'm glad Smitty is enjoying the green grass too. I'm packed and ready to go on today's adventure with you. Have fun and happy shopping in Whitehorse!
