It was a busy day yesterday. Mans were coming in and out, in and out, all day long, much to the consternation of Miss Sadie. She spent most of the day in my office, hiding under Eliza's table. My next quilt to be quilted is draped over the chair there, which makes a handy fort for saving oneself from certain murder by strange Mans.
This was the first insurance guy we've seen in the flesh since filing our claim over six weeks ago. On the positive side, he has approved the replacement of the carpet in the entire basement. He recognized the problem of replacing only a small section when the entire expanse of the room was made up of the same stuff. So that's the good news. The bad news is that we'll be getting new carpet, and so virtually everything will have to be moved out of the basement, including my sewing room. Yikes.
He was very professional and likable. He had a protege with him. Apparently, the insurance company is so severely understaffed it literally can't carry on with insurance business in Oregon. The guy who came yesterday is actually based out of Tennessee and is on the company's "Catastrophe Team." It seems we're fresh out of catastrophes in the USA enough to keep people on the Catastrophe Team busy, and so they're sent out to different overworked venues to help out. He's also training a new hire. So there's that. He told us he's been doing this work for 27 years and that he responded to claims after 9/11 and Katrina. I can only imagine the difficulties involved in that kind of job.
While we were chatting, I was stitching away, and I finished up the top portion of the pitcher.
Okay, so then it was time to do our grocery shopping. When we arrived back home, I noticed something blocking the opening to one of the nest boxes. It was a little hard to see because it's high overhead. Zooming in with my camera, I could see a bird sitting on what seems to be a very tall nest.
When we had the groceries put away, I went to work on my Animal Kingdom challenge quilt. I'm working on the face now, which has at least a hundred tiny pieces. Some are so small I have to hold them with tweezers just to cut them out. I can see the animal emerging, which is encouraging. Most of the face, nose, and mouth area is finished. Today, I'm hoping to work my way up to the ears. Here's a peek.

I was worried when I saw the title of your post. My first thought was the kitties! Glad the bad news wasn't worse. When I've started claims in the last couple of years, for (luckily not too bad) hurricane damage at one house, and an approaching forest fire at the other, the claims adjusters came from far away. There seems to be a set of claims adjusters who are full-time travelers going from disaster to disaster around the country. The man who checked my California house after the Creek fire was from Florida. (Thanks to heroic firefighters, my neighborhood was an island of survival in the midst of a huge burn area.) Dot
Look at the new carpeting as an opportunity to clear out the clutter (which you've already started with the pool table) and reorganize the remainder. What's the time frame on the carpet replacement? Could be a busy summer. Probably a good thing you didn't start the garden.

Oh may you have a busy time ahead of you. Good thing you have most of your trip planned already. But emptying the basement is going to be a big job. I hope you can access the garage from the basement and don’t have to haul everything upstairs. My legs hurt just thinking about that.
Well, I'm glad the insurance guys finally showed up. It's great that the pool table moved so quickly, too. Wilbs has been close to my side the entirety of my recovery. He's a great nurse!
Great news about carpet replacement; I guess understaffing is everywhere these days!! i am so anxious to see how your "animal" will come together...boy tweezer pieces!! Really tiny precise work for you.
Hope your Memorial day weekend is a good one. [Our local school bus just dropped off neighborhood kids who obviously got a half day plus their 3-day weekend...]

Oh my! I feel for you! We are in the process of clearing rooms for new carpet and I'm in a walking boot with a broken foot. My Mike hauled a load to the thrift store yesterday and we gave away some things to the young man across the street. We haven't even started on the sewing room yet! We have three weeks to prepare and it will probably take us that long to get it done.
Overall, while there is some bad news, the good news is really good. And I think your Swallow has a smile on her face she is so happy with all the good news. If you are ever going to get new carpeting, this sounds like a good time to do it! But, boy oh boy, is it a lot of work to get new carpeting when you have lived in a home for many years as you have. If I lived closer I'd offer to come help.
Darn well about time someone showed themselves from the insurance company.
What a sweet little birdie face peeking out of the box.
