Good morning, my friends. I'm sitting in a cold RV this morning. The temperatures in Boulder City have been nothing to write home about for the past two days. It was a very blustery day yesterday. The wind has died down, but it is still cold. For whatever reason, I can't get the furnace to come on, and Mike is still in bed. I have an idea we're low on propane. It isn't the end of the world, and it's probably just a matter of switching to a second tank. I think it's supposed to happen automatically, but then...maybe that isn't the problem at all. It's okay, I have a bean bag that I warm in the microwave and it functions like a hot water bottle. It's keeping me mostly warm, but my hands are cold. Just now I heard Mike stirring. His ears (or maybe his eyes) must be burning with me writing about him. If he doesn't get up by the time I'm finished here, I'm going to wake him up and get him to stoke the home fires.
Okay, so we didn't do much yesterday because it was too unpleasantly windy to be outside. With such cold temperatures the wind was bitter and biting. (I'm sure all you folks buried in snow will feel sympathetic for this poor quilter in sunny Nevada. Not.) As I'm writing this, there is a hummingbird stationed in the tree outside our window. I can't get a very good picture of him in the low light.
Here I've zoomed in a little...still kind of blurry, but it's the best I can do until there's more sunlight.
It's about to drive Sadie to distraction.
So yesterday's inchy was posted, and I've stitched it up. There should be another one posted within the hour. I'm hoping my fingers will be warmer by then.
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, my friend Dorothy posted a picture of some pretty heart quilt blocks she's making, and it gave me an idea for using up the many red and white half square triangles I generated a couple of days ago. And it works!
I have enough of these to make four hearts...enough to make a little Valentine's Day table topper. It'll be another quilt for my "trashy" series, meaning these are the sorts of things I might otherwise toss in the trash. These were all cut-off bonus triangles from when I finished off the "I Believe in Snowmen" quilt.
Okay, but if I'm going to make a trashy quilt, I need some fabric. So that gave us something to do. We had a couple of other errands to run, but we finished off with a visit to Quiltique, which is a truly great quilt shop in Henderson, just to the north of Boulder City. I've written a post about Quiltique before, and so I didn't do another one. If you want to know more about this place, you can
read my old blog post right here. I met up with my friend Heidi on that day.
It's a big shop with lots of fabric, but surprisingly little Valentine's Day fabric. I couldn't really find what I was looking for since all their heart fabric was in shades of pink. I was looking for a solid white and some red hearts. Strangely, I couldn't find a solid white, but I found this one with just some sparse tone-on-tone polka dots. It was hard to get a good picture, but you can see the polka dots in the lower right corner of the image below. It should work for my trashy quilt.
And then this one for the red. It isn't hearts, but it will work.
While we watched the news later in the afternoon, I filled in the next hoop of the blackwork basket.
It's about half finished now. Smitty would like you to know that he had a paw in this effort too.
Okay, so it's a better day today weather-wise. I'm going to get outside for another photo scavenger hunt. Also, I'm going to sew together the four trashy hearts. If there's more time for sewing, I'll start sewing it into a finished top. I'm kind of excited now that I've found a purpose for all those reds and whites.
Mike is finally stirring, and his phone just started ringing too. It must be time to start the day. My first stop will be stitching the next inchy. It's going to be a good day. I hope you have a good day planned for yourself too.

Your "I believe in snowmen" quilt is awesome, would love to make one. How much longer are y'all going to be gone? I hope all is well with your heat! I tried making the skillet chocolate chip cookies. Since I was making 4 of them I used the regular recipe on the bag and it was enough, baked about 23 minutes, yum! Thanks!
I hope the very talented St. Mike has restored heat for your RV by the time this comment makes it to your inbox. Not fun to wake up to cold temps, which I consider worse than being out and about on a cold day. But we woke up to nice blue skies this morning with a promise of better weather. I hope as the day unfolds you get the same. Sweet Inchie.
I will try this again without the spelling errors.
I happened to look at the weather for Las Vegas yesterday and was amazed with the temp. My son-in-law and two of the grandkids are there to participate in an archery competition. They will be competing for at least three days. They had a hard day of driving yesterday to get there because the Blue Mountains were closed to traffic the first day they left and they didn’t make it as far as they were suppose to. No idea how my SIL made it from Pendleton to LV in one day of driving.
This mornings temp in Las Vegas is the same as ours but with sunshine. We had rain all day yesterday and this morning is a little less wet but just as gray.
We shared that cold wind with you here in Tucson yesterday. I just came in from the morning "recognoiter" around the yard. All of the bird baths are frozen solid. My recording thermometer, which is under the cover of the patio roof, shows a low of 31 degrees early this morning. I'm sure it was colder out in the yard! I have strung clear full size Christmas lights throughout my plants to give them some warmth (along with a frost cloth). I tell everyone that if the space shuttle was still flying they could see my yard from space! Cuddle up with one of those fur bearing hot blubber bottles and stay warm!
I hope your heat has been restored by now. I'm cold all the time, but I sympathize with you since you went south to find warmer weather, only to be cold anyway. It's snowing and will be through tomorrow afternoon. At first is was gentle and falling straight to the ground, but the wind has come up a bit and the snow is swirling about and a little heavier. We're supposed to get about 10-12" by the time it ends. At least it was in the upper 40's yesterday and I was able to walk to the library to restock my reading materials.

I have a 'bean bag', too, and warm it up and move it around (feet, hands, chest) rather than drag out the heating pad. It really makes a difference!! Poor little hummer freezing his beak off. So fun seeing the kitties watch the hummers.
Your trashy heart came out great. I have my 4 ready to sew rows together and then I'll start on the flying geese that run through the center
Sorry it's cold in sunny/warm Nevada. It's misty/gray/cold in W WA
The red fabric does suggest hearts with the shape of the swirls. Should be perfect. Stay warm!!
Loving the trashy hearts idea--really neat use of those cut off triangles...hope it warms up for you there...we are deep in fog as the temp has risen to 43 and the snow is melting---but we have yet another cold front bearing down on us overnight...[hoping it won't be too early as I have a pre-shot Covid test taking place a ways away from home]
take care and stay warm hugs, Julierose
I love your trashy heart pattern for waste triangles. What size were your cutoffs? I have trouble saving those cut off from 2-1/2” square. They seem so tiny once they are sewn.
I must admit I snickered just a teeny bit when I read that you were making a 'trashy' quilt but had to go and buy some new fabric for it. For some reason I thought of an oxymoron. And that, my friend, is the result of not enough coffee yet this morning!
(ps. I do like that heart design!)
Ooh, that cold wind left here on Wednesday. Tuesday and Wednesday the big gusts of wind was pushing cars and trucks around enough on the freeway traffic slowed. Now it is blowing your way. If that weather system would move further south on the west coast I think everyone would be happier. More snow and rain for California and southwestern states and that arctic air would move north in the Midwest and East.
Stay warm, sew well and bring out your Spanish coffee. A little sewing and a little tax prep done on this end.
I'm sorry it's cold when you want sunny and warm. Glad today is a better day. Your little hearts are quite cute!
Cold seems to be the word for the week. We've also got about 7 to 8" of snow on the ground. I'm ready for spring! Love your trashy hearts! That will be a fun project to finish up before Valentines Day.
