A Half Dozen Sandwiches

Yesterday and the next two days were set aside for sandwiching quilts. I made more progress on Day 1 than expected, and I should be able to finish them up today. It'll feel like a win to have all those quilt sandwiches piled up for quilting. I decided to start with the largest among them, and then work my way down in size. That means today's effort will be easier than yesterday's.

The largest quilt was Ella's Flower Garden at 74 x 74 inches:

I really love the backing fabric for this one:

Next up was Paintbox Pizzazz. This was one of two Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts in 2020.

It was followed by Charm Stars, another 2020 Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt:

Next up was this hand-embroidered Appalachian Memories quilt. I saw this quilt made up when we made our USA Perimeter tour in 2017, and it had to be mine. It was fun to stitch.

Next up was the Snowflakes quilt. I think this might be my favorite of the bunch. It's so pretty with all the beadwork on the snowflakes, and I had the perfect fabrics in my stash to finish it off. After I broke my shoulder, one of those pieced snowflakes was my first attempt at sewing.

Finally, Garden Sunshine. This was a sew-along a year or so ago.

Here's the status of my quilt stack. I'll be adding six more today.

There's actually one quilt left from my last go-round of sandwich making. It's been lounging on my sewing chair for months. It's this Fancy Cats panel quilt:

That'll be the next quilt to go under my needle after I finish the Get Well Kitty mini.

My shoulder handled all this sandwiching activity with a minimum of complaining. My feet complained loudest. I was doing all this in our ground level garage, which meant I was running up and down the stairs to my basement sewing room all day long as I ironed and then sandwiched backs and tops. And I was on my feet the whole live-long day.

It'll be good to finish them off today. And since I scheduled three days for what is turning into a two-day job...a free day awaits me at the end. And you know that means an NBS day (Nothing But Sewing). But let's not count our quilts before they're sandwiched. There's still a full day ahead. It's going to look a lot like yesterday, only with smaller quilts. I'm actually looking forward to it.

I'm so impressed. I've been putting off sandwiching ONE quilt for more than a week. My time tracking app asked me if I was on vacation.

You're setting yourself up for some lovely winter quilting. All those rainbow colors will be mighty cheerful to look at during the long dark days of January and February. I'm especially looking forward to seeing how you quilt the Appalachian memories quilt.

I feel as if I just walked thru an awesome quilt show. Your quilts are stunning and I love the backing you shared. I've been impressed for a long time how your approach your sandwiching. Congratulations on getting 6 tops sandwiched and ready for quilting. They are all brilliant! And, for my morning ROFL - I initially thought you had made a bunch of sandwiches for Mike and thought you were sending him off on a big project day, of a different nature.

I'm envious of you getting all of those quilt sandwiched! I have my stack (six of 'em) waiting for the same treatment. I set up my tables, got the first one started, then had a minor flood in the kitchen which turned out to be a broken water line in the wall. One end of my kitchen is gutted :-( Needless to say, all quilt work is on pause until I get things organized. The insult added to injury? Best guesstimate is the work won't begin for another six weeks! Oh, well...

Haven't you done well! And such good planning to work with the largest and go down in size. I pinned one only quilt yesterday, and my back certainly told me all about it when I had finished! Hope your shoulder is not complaining too much.

You know how much I love those barns so I was happy to see them again.
Question for you - I assume, now that you've made sandwiches of these, that you're also basting them? Do you baste with needle and thread or pins?? Curious mind would like to know!
