A Finish and a Winner

Good morning, my friends! We're closing in on the end of a busy week. I have one more appointment to keep this week, and then I'm free until Monday! And today's appointment is for a pedicure, so who can complain about that?

But let's get down to important business first, shall we? It's time to choose a winner for the Blueberry Backroads pattern giveaway. Mr. Random has spoken and chosen:

#26--Nancy!

Congratulations, Nancy! I've sent you an email, so check your inbox. And thanks to everyone who entered. Thanks also to Sara at Blueberry Backroads for sponsoring this giveaway.

As for me, I had a dental appointment yesterday. I'll tell you I was dreading it. No reason in particular. Isn't just him being a dentist reason enough? Anyway...a clean check-up, and I survived the trip to downtown Portland. We were expecting heavy rains and wind yesterday, and it just never materialized, which was quite a relief. When I arrived home, I found the roofers hard at work. I snapped this image of a section of the completed portion, so you can have some idea how it's looking:

There was a little more light for this photo, and now you can see the green color. We're happy with how it's going, and it's very nearly finished. Yesterday the satellite was realigned for our satellite TV, and the roofers were able to reinstall our internet antenna so that the internet was only down for about 20 minutes. I was busy sewing, and so I didn't even know it was down. They've worked so hard over the past three days. For all the whining I did about the long delay in getting started, the installation crew has been very professional. They've worked diligently to get our project finished as quickly as possible.

They ran into a little snafu yesterday upon realizing they were missing a box of the metal shingles. Enough were ordered to finish, but somehow a box was missing. They were going to check this morning to see if it is still at the warehouse. If so, they'll be back to finish up today. If not, it will be another week before they return. There is just a little bit to finish on the front side of the house, and then there are two small roofs...one over the front porch (you can see it on the right side of the image above), and one on the opposite side of the house where our kitchen greenhouse window is. Those still need finishing. Fortunately, most of the banging on the main part of the house is finished. Fingers crossed they'll be back to finish up today, but I'm not really counting on it. I expect it will be next week. If I lower my expectations, I can't be disappointed.

Okay, so it was around 2:00 p.m. before I was able to get back to my sewing. It was mostly slow-stitching yesterday. I finished stitching the details for the Huevos Rancheros quilt block. I stitched the "Refried Beans" label on the can, and then added some little chopped peppers to the eggs.

From there, I needed to trim the block and add some borders. Sadie accompanied me into the sewing room.

Together we added two borders.

All that was left then was to add the dreaded fringe to the tablecloth. And let me just tell you, that part is a painus in the anus.

There are six blocks that include fringe on the tablecloth. Four down, two to go; but to finish off all the blocks, I still need to make five more. Here are all the blocks I have for this quilt so far.

When that was finished, I'd reached the end of my sewing day.

When I get home today, I'm hoping I'll have some time in the sewing room. Next up is to finish the final six blocks for the City Bank quilt. Here's how it looked last time I worked on it:

Six more blocks to make, and then all the quilt blocks will be finished. Sewing the blocks into a finished quilt top will make a good take-along project when we make our trip south this winter. Already I have strips cut for the next quilt block, but I need to find fabric for five more. I started this quilt as a way to pare down my blues and greens, and so I'm hoping I can come up with enough fabrics among my scraps that I won't have to start in on uncut fat quarters. My blues and greens have run a bit thin, and so I've started adding in more purples.

Okay, so it's time to get going. The kitty cat alphabet slow-stitching project awaits, and as we all know, cats are very impatient.

Your roof is such a pretty color--it really looks great!
One of my very favorite things (to eat, natch) is guacamole--and that is my fave block in your Mexacali piece...so neat--they are all really lovely though. Looking forward to seeing that kitty alphabet come together...

Your new roof looks absolutely fantastic on your house. Great decision to go with the metal roof. I love it. And all your blocks look great. I wasn't sure how the fringe would look when you shared previously you were adding it, but it really works well with the overall quilt and theme. Such a festive quilt!

The new roof looks great; hope they find the missing pack of shingles so the delay isn't too long. Those food blocks are so fun; I can imagine the tablecloth fringe is a bit of a pain though! I like City Blocks as well - it glows!

Your roof looks perfect on your house - good choice. Fingers crossed they'll be back in short order to finish the job. I love how colorful the Rancheros blocks are, but I wouldn't want to be hungry when I was working on them!!

Roof is looking good and looks great on your house. The fringe really does add to the block (even though it is a pain to make and attach). I look forward to watching the progression of the kitty alphabet.
