A Little Progress

Just as I sat down to write this post, I looked out to notice our moody morning skies.

I believe it's going to be a nice day today. Those threatening clouds are moving on. Possibly I'll get outside and deadhead the hydrangeas today; that is, if I get some quilting done first. Priorities, people.

And hey...did you know that yesterday was National No Housework Day? And when it comes to housework, nobody can say I'm not a patriot. "National," my friends.

Fortunately, I didn't do any housework. Nobody can call me un-American. I'll admit I was mightily tempted, but enter the roofers.

We ended up spending way more time than expected meeting with the roofers. (Cats were extremely unhappy about strange Mans being present in the house.) We accepted their pitch. We'll be getting our new roof sometime this summer. We went with this company, and we're getting the metal roof we wanted. I've only seen metal roofs that are laid in sheets. The one we're getting is made up of interlocking shingles like the ones pictured here:

Ours will be a different color though...hunter green for us. It's in keeping with the colors of our landscape. Dark cedar shake siding, hunter green trim, and now a hunter green roof. It will cost a pretty penny, and so it's a little like buying new tires. There's absolutely nothing exciting about showing it off. Count on it, though. Later this summer, I'll be showing you before and after pictures. For now, you can just see it in your dreams. Endlessly fascinating, I know.

After spending so much time with the roofers, I thought my eyes would roll back in my head. Nevertheless, I did make a little progress on the quilting. In the green border around the center panel, I did this ribbon motif.

That was pretty easy when I could keep my insys and outsys straight. Also, I did more quilting in the white sashing. I'm pretty happy with how that's turning out. I was trying to do something different around the first dress, but I ended up with a big fat feather. Whatever works, and I'll do this with the rest of the dresses too.

Finally, I added more ribbon around the yellow border.

So I'll stick with these same motifs for all the dresses and white sashings, and I'll use it in that flower border as well. I have some other ideas for when I work my way around the outer border.

I don't expect to get that far until sometime next week, so I'm still mulling it over.

So, now I have the sections inside the blue line finished.

Today I'm hoping to get the dress blocks on the right side finished. It's slow-going though, babying my shoulder. It's probably just as well the roofers took up most of my quilting time yesterday.

We're heading off to the grocery store this morning, and I'll do a bit of housework that I put off celebrating yesterday's housework holiday. If there's time I'll work on those hydrangeas, but it seems a little overly optimistic. That will probably have to wait until tomorrow.

In awe, I watched the waxing moon ride across the zenith of the heavens like an ambered chariot towards the ebony void of infinite space wherein the tethered belts of Jupiter and Mars hang, for ever festooned in their orbital majesty. And as I looked at all this I thought... I must put a roof on this toilet. ~ Les Dawson

In my logic process working with roofers to get a new roof definitely counts as housework. How else should it be counted? It certainly isn't quilting, nor stitchery, gardening, travel, or visiting with family or friends. Yeap, it is housework, aka the expensive housework. But how cool to get a green metal roof. Going to look nice. BTW - Your stitchery and quilting project looks so cheerful.

Well, yesterday was also National Beer Day, so I, of course, had to celebrate that event. And I guess I also celebrated Nation No Housework Day because I don't think I did anything that would qualify as housework either. Cause gardening is gardening not housework, right? I should be doing more of that gardening today, but the high is going to be near 80 and I'm not likely to get very far at that temp. Maybe I'll just read a book.

I've followed your progress on those dresses since you first started stitching them and they make a cute quilt top. I love the ribbon design and the feathers works well. Slow but steady will get the very pretty quilt finished. I love it when the quilt tops finally get their turn to be quilted. It's like meeting an old friend after time apart. Your new roof sounds interesting and should blend in with the country side rather well

Gee - nobody told me & I houseworked! My son has done those types of roofings and prefers to install the sheet - yeah, the asphalt shingles as well. It depends what supplies they can get at what price to work with customers - the industry is hurting. Kitties had their annual trip to the vet - Bella over weight and Moe underweight, but otherwise good for another year. of course, they are both mad at me!

The kitties aren't going to enjoy the noise those Mans make either, methinks. Your quilting is looking good! We are having rain here too this morning.

I absolutely love that quilt. It is just so beautiful with all that embroidery and the marvelous quilting. Your new roof will be wonderful - and how in the world did you find that quote about the toilet needing a roof? That was so funny to me.

Metal roofing is a better choice if you are concerned about wildfires. It is also a longer lasting roof. Love those sundresses. Anticipating the commentary from Smitty and Sadie when the roofing is underway. I’m sure they will have plenty to say.

A metal roof sounds really practical. Do they last longer than shingles? The Sundress quilt is looking good. Hopefully your shoulder is behaving itself.

We had a tile roof, would not catch fire, but teh wasps made nests under it. Hope that does not happen to yours! Love your quote at the top of the comments.
