A Little Progress

Just as I sat down to write this post, I looked out to notice our moody morning skies. 

I believe it's going to be a nice day today. Those threatening clouds are moving on. Possibly I'll get outside and deadhead the hydrangeas today; that is, if I get some quilting done first. Priorities, people.

And hey...did you know that yesterday was National No Housework Day? And when it comes to housework, nobody can say I'm not a patriot. "National," my friends. 

Fortunately, I didn't do any housework. Nobody can call me un-American. I'll admit I was mightily tempted, but enter the roofers. 

We ended up spending way more time than expected meeting with the roofers. (Cats were extremely unhappy about strange Mans being present in the house.) We accepted their pitch. We'll be getting our new roof sometime this summer. We went with this company, and we're getting the metal roof we wanted. I've only seen metal roofs that are laid in sheets. The one we're getting is made up of interlocking shingles like the ones pictured here:

Ours will be a different color though...hunter green for us. It's in keeping with the colors of our landscape. Dark cedar shake siding, hunter green trim, and now a hunter green roof. It will cost a pretty penny, and so it's a little like buying new tires. There's absolutely nothing exciting about showing it off. Count on it, though. Later this summer, I'll be showing you before and after pictures. For now, you can just see it in your dreams. Endlessly fascinating, I know.

After spending so much time with the roofers, I thought my eyes would roll back in my head. Nevertheless, I did make a little progress on the quilting. In the green border around the center panel, I did this ribbon motif.  

That was pretty easy when I could keep my insys and outsys straight. Also, I did more quilting in the white sashing. I'm pretty happy with how that's turning out. I was trying to do something different around the first dress, but I ended up with a big fat feather. Whatever works, and I'll do this with the rest of the dresses too.

Finally, I added more ribbon around the yellow border.

So I'll stick with these same motifs for all the dresses and white sashings, and I'll use it in that flower border as well. I have some other ideas for when I work my way around the outer border.

I don't expect to get that far until sometime next week, so I'm still mulling it over.

So, now I have the sections inside the blue line finished. 

Today I'm hoping to get the dress blocks on the right side finished. It's slow-going though, babying my shoulder. It's probably just as well the roofers took up most of my quilting time yesterday.

We're heading off to the grocery store this morning, and I'll do a bit of housework that I put off celebrating yesterday's housework holiday. If there's time I'll work on those hydrangeas, but it seems a little overly optimistic. That will probably have to wait until tomorrow.
