Snailing Again

It was another slow day here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch. The morning started with me working my way through the last inchy motif. When I had the flowers and a few of the words stitched, I gave my thumb a break. The flowers are long and short stitches.

Later in the day, I finished off the words and the outer border.

And that makes a finish for the embroidery.

When we get home, I'll add a border, quilting, and binding, and turn this into a little wall-hanging. And, what the heck? Since this is the first of March, I'll make that my goal for:

Also on my March list of goals...get vaccines! We finally became eligible this morning. I've been all over the various websites relevant to our part of Oregon. There are appointments available, but they're only scheduling out a few days. We're both signed up on a list for someone to call and notify us as well, and then I would expect we'd have more flexibility in scheduling. I was hoping to find something for the 15th or later. So, my guess is that supply is still iffy, and so appointments aren't scheduled out that far. I'll keep trying on some of the lists, but we'll probably have to wait for someone to call us. Our local paper tells us to "be patient." Okay...but it's hard.

Today will be a busier day. We're driving to San Diego, where I'm meeting a blogging friend at Rosie's Calico Cupboard. I visited Rosie's way back in 2011, and so it'll be like visiting for the first time again. You can read that old blog post right here. At the very least, I'll be on the hunt for a regional fabric. We're also going to visit Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery where my parents are interred. We visited the cemetery on the same day back in 2011. Since then, my father has joined my mother, and so we'll go pay our respects. I'd like to get some flowers to take along. We'll also visit Cabrillo National Monument and the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. We visited all these places on the same day, and you can read more about them right here. So, we're going to pack a lot into a single day. We'll need to eat our wheaties this morning.

Now that the inchies are finished, I'll get back to focusing exclusively on the redwork Quilt Shop piece. I'm hoping there are only a few days left before it will be finished too.

I have an appointment for my first dose tonight at 9:20 p.m. It's a drive-through at the University of Arizona mall (tailgating, anyone?). A neighbor thought the appointment time was just awful. I told her that I wouldn't care if it was scheduled for three o'clock in the morning! What I found interesting was how much my anxiety level dropped by simply getting the appointment. Enjoy your day by the bay!

Your inchies turned out great. You have a busy day planned and it sounds way more enjoyable than laundry, vacuuming and washing the floors. Some people in WNY are driving a couple hundred miles trying to secure the vaccine. We're content to wait until the J&J vaccine is available at our local Walgreens and then we'll make the 8 mile drive.

Your stitch along turned out beautifully!! I love your color choices and different borders.

I'm not eligible for the vaccine for a while, even though I am immunocompromised and will have to get my vaccine under hospital observation for risk of anaphylaxis, I still have two? more phases to go (in WA) but I'm very content to stay home and wait it out. I'm grateful there are vaccines, and the one dose J&J one sounds awesome!! I hope you can find convenient appointment times and that your shots go well! My 19 year old daughter is a health care worker and has had both doses, with no side effects from the first shot, and pretty severe exhaustion, aches and chills from the second. She's good now though!

I enjoyed watching you stitch your beautiful inchies and love to see how they all look together. What a beautiful wall hanging this will be. Thank you for inspiring me to pursue your two thread lengths approach (per day). I've decided to go for it as I love the look of all your stitching and I like to keep my hands busy, especially when traveling.

Oh, this is very sweet! A trip to a quilt shop sounds devine. We are having horrid winds, super cold, and snow - AGAIN. Winter is not done with us yet.

That's a good monthly goal for March. I hope your day went well!

Your Inchies piece is looking good. I'm sure you will easily finish it up for your March goal.
We discovered yesterday that the location where we each got our first shot last week was a pop-up site. So we really lucked out as people here are being booked out to April and as Quilting Babcia says, hundreds of miles from home. Meanwhile, a site set up for only 10 Rochester zip codes has only found 11,000 takers and has 17,000 openings with only about 3 more days. After that, I guess the site is being opened up to more people. I'm sure those slots will be taken immediately.
Hope the San Diego side trip wasn't too exhausting.

Love SD. We lived there several years and enjoyed all of the spots you listed. Regarding vaccines, we had the second with minor side effects (Pfizer). If your state works like ours they do not book way out for several reasons. First the supply chain has been iffy whether by production of vaccine or weather related issues. 2. The second dose patients are the priority. I found the calendar only open either 21 or 28 days out (depending on your vaccine) to those who received the first dose. That certainly explained the why on fewer dates and times being open for the first dose if supply is limited. 3. They are finding people don’t show up if appointments are too far out! People go vaccine hunting, sign up for an earlier time. Then don’t cancel the later appointments. When people do not show up there is a scramble to fill slots for any vaccine that is thawed and the target patients may not be in the final vaccinated group.

I hope you are able to receive your vaccine soon after arriving in Oregon. There is a feeling of relief and hope once vaccinated.

ahhh....just the thought of stepping inside a fabric shop! I hope you had a great time with your friend. Your inchy project has turned out wonderfully and you should be proud of it. Be sure, when you make your label, that you include the fact that you stitched it with a broken thumb.

Love all the places listed- I'm local and have been a fan of Rosie's since way back in her garage. Besides a wonderful shop she does a lot of philanthropy for child cancer patients in our area. I'm scheduled for my 2nd shot this Thurs and like Cathy S. said the anxiety level went way down just knowing that I was going to be
able to get the vaccine. Love to all and scritches fr the kitties.

Your inchies are beautiful. I am way behind but I'll eventually get them finished.
