You might say we moved around like slugs yesterday, except that this is Southern California, and so snails are the thing here. Unlike the gargantuan slugs we have in Oregon, our California neighbors are more troubled by snails. Here's a prime example I found among Wiki Commons images:

Looks delicious, no?
So, yeah, a slow day yesterday. I really don't have much to tell you. Even the kitties had a slow day. They had double tummy toasting yesterday morning. They don't usually sit side by side like this...and certainly not face-to-face. But the morning was so slow, and the sun so luscious, it was a rare moment of peaceful co-contentment for them.
We had a chicken Caesar salad planned for our dinner. And...hey...salad. It certainly means we need to supplement our calorie count with dessert, don't you think? And so I offered Mike the option of Dutch Apple Pie for two, Mini Carrot Cakes for two, or Skillet Cookie. And when skillet cookie is on the menu, there really is no question about it. So,
Skillet Cookie...coming up.
While I was at it, I baked some Salad Sprinkle Croutons for our salad. Honestly, these are such good croutons, I never bother with store-bought any more. I use the cut-off ends of bread and cut them into chunks, then keep them in a zip-lock bag in the freezer. To make the croutons, I simply take the bread chunks straight from the freezer, spray them with olive oil no-stick spray, sprinkle with garlic powder and
Penzey's Sandwich Sprinkle, then bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes, and voila! Delicious croutons for our salad.
We talked about going out to Fallbrook for more avocados yesterday, but then we just moved around at a snail's pace all day. It was nice to just hang out and go nowhere. Today we really will go out for the avocados, and maybe we'll do something else...I don't know. I just know where the day starts. It's Sunday, and so that means blueberry oatmeal pancakes. That's where I'm heading next.

For observing nature, the best pace is a snail's pace. ~ Edwin Way Teale
I'm not surprised you needed a sluggish day after all the visiting you did earlier in the week. Kitty co-existence makes for a calm relaxing day as well.

I could sure use a tummy toasting day here. I remember the first time I saw your Oregon slugs; I was so confused. I could only imagine that they were snails that had shed their shells, but that didn't seem quite right. They remain one of the strangest things I've ever seen. The wonders of nature. I use Sandwich Sprinkle all the time! I no longer buy many crackers, or croutons, or garlic bread. I buy a day old baguette instead and cube/slice/make all of those things in just a tiny bit of time, and we enjoy them so much more. Love me my penzeys.
I just made us a batch of homemade croutons yesterday--they are amazing, aren't they? Snails--ugh for me!! "Te gustibus" and all that ;)))

Snails and slugs - just snot balls rolling along. Saturday was my 'house chore' day, so Sunday about the only thing I got done was dishes. Brother and SIL out and visit with Mom - she won't remember (on new meds from la-la land). Went for a walk in the mud. Yup , from ice rink right into pig trough. BUT the fresh air was great.
Interestingly, our snails have all but disappeared. I think it’s due to the various bouts of drought years. I still have the Sluggo purchased about 15 years ago and have not used it after the year it was purchased. I used to go through a few units a year. The banana slugs are still in our Santa Cruz mountains but the common snail is not often seen. Every few years I see a few but they can be hand picked or even left alone and not end up with the hordes we used to have that ate everything. Love kitties basking in the sun. If I see mine commanding a space I make sure ass much sunlight as possible is available by opening and blinds or draw shutters aside so they do not have to move until the sun passes by. I think they appreciate the gesture.
Your quiet day sounds so relaxing and nice. We had a busy one yesterday, hubs donated plasma so I did a little shopping while I waited for him to be done. I love that crouton recipe; it's so easy to make and they taste so much better than the store-bought variety!
I love Vrooman's 'snot balls rolling along' comment!!! Somehow fitting! I am so envious of that Skillet Cookie - it looks beyond yummy - especially if it were served warm topped with just a little ice cream (well...a lot would be better, but we mustn't be greedy!).
We moved at a snail's pace here as well. Yesterday and the day before Hubby had mowed lawn #2, and needed the day off today. I'm still anticipating my hip surgery, it got postponed, and I have a new date with my surgeon coming soon!
