Flimsy in the Making

It's been a lazy morning here at the Three Cats Ranch. I was up early, but then ended up napping on the couch for a while. The couch is the only place in the house where I can lie on my side comfortably. I can lie on my left side, using the back of the couch as a backstop to lean against, and then I can rest my broken arm in the "crevice" formed between my body and the couch. It feels luxurious when one's positions of comfort are limited.

So I'm late with my blog post, and I've done nothing else of interest yet today. I'm happy to say I've completed all the blocks for the Snowflakes quilt now. Today I'm hoping to get them sewn together. It's doubtful I'll get the borders sewn on, but that can be a job for another day. Yesterday's work was done under the watchful eye of Smitty. He's keeping close tabs and watching the clock to make sure I don't overdo.

When I had one more snowflake completed, I took a nice long break.

I've been trying to decide between two different fabrics for my setting triangles, and so I laid out the blocks and inquired of the Resident Engineer. I've settled on the embroidered snowflake border fabric for the setting triangles, and I'll use the pale blue fairy frost pieced snowflake background for one of the borders.

Mike and I needed to run a bunch of errands in town. Our trip is a week away, and so we're trying to gather everything we'll need. Grocery shopping is still to come, but we're good for a few more days.

When we got home, we let the kitties out for a while. They love being outside, but in this rainy, cold weather, they never stay out more than about 20 minutes. Smitty was waiting for Sadie to join him. They're still working out a business plan for their critter extermination business.

Sadie's really more into the investigatory process and catching critters than she is in the business end of things.

Back inside, there was some confusion about who was taking the second shift in the sewing room. Smitty said he'd give her the day off, and she was good with that.

She had bigger, um, fish to fry upstairs.

Okay, and so Smitty and I made the last two pieced snowflakes together. Here they are...um, excuse me...could you just...

Thank you. Here they are.

The only other thing I did was to cut the setting triangles, and so those are ready to go.

I took some time to clean up the sewing room and put away some scraps. When I left, the pieces for the main part of the quilt were laid out to be sewn together, and that's what I'll be doing today.

I did some slow stitching yesterday too, but I didn't take any pictures. I'll work on that a little more today too.

First, I need to get through the hardest part of the day...showering and dressing. It's a slow and painful process still, but at least I'm able to get it done without any help from Mike. The prospect does encourage lazy morning procrastinating on the couch, however. At some point, even being lazy has it's limits, and I've reached mine for the morning.

Wow, looks like Smitty takes his job seriously! Good thing you've got those helpful cats. Your blocks are beautiful Barbara. Cannot wait to see this one done. Glad you are able to at least find some comfort on your couch, I just cannot imagine.

So great that you can find some humor in your day, laughing in the face of the pain you are having. Thanks for the chuckle, Smitty. Hang in there!!

Great choice of fabric for the setting triangles. I love watching quilts come together and this one is really cute. Take care and don't over do it but at the same time doing things you can manage in the limits set by the pain levels and energy is great physio for the shoulder.

You are the inspiration behind what I've been doing today on my latest landscape. Should be able to show at least some of it on Friday. Mine isn't the scale of yours but at least snowflakes are featured. How I wish I had studio cat-istants too!

Are you going to be able to shower and sleep comfortably in the RV?
