When the World is a Snow Globe

Well, you Midwest people can stop your snickering now. We got some serious snow last night. When I looked out this morning, this is what I saw. About five inches fell overnight.

It's been falling off and on all morning. If you believe the forecasters, this is only the beginning, and we're in for some serious snow this week. It isn't often we see even this much, let alone what is predicted.

The kitties have been out.

They always greet the snow with a mixture of confusion and curiosity.

Smitty thinks it's best viewed from his kitty pole.

Sadie was the more adventurous of the two this morning. She went out several times, coming in and chattering away with excitement each time. Eventually, she settled in on my lap to help me with my slow-stitching. See if you can guess what's happening in the next to photos.

As long as we're talking about the Snow Globes stitchery, I stitched enough of the base yesterday to move the hoop to the right.

Here's where I left it yesterday.

Like the Energizer Bunny, this morning I just kept going, and going, and going, until I had the whole base stitched. It's fun when I can add the sparkly floss.

Now I've moved the hoop northward, and the last of the last is encompassed. There isn't a whole lot left, and so this could easily be finished tomorrow morning. If you look at the top of the image below, you can see a few stray Sadie furs. Her fur is really bad about sticking to the fabric. A lint roller works well.

Oh yes, and I stitched the next little inchy too. This one had a new-to-me stitch...the pistil stitch, which is the pink stitching above the flower. It's really just a long stitch with a French knot at the end. It was a little hard keeping tension on the floss to get a good tight stitch and knot. I finally figured out just to keep my thumb over the knot while I pulled it tight. Also, those are double lazy daisies leaves.

Yesterday, I finished my February OMG, which was to sew together the blocks for the Rainbow Jubilee quilt. It's a finished flimsy now.

When all was said and done, I had this little pile of trimmings. No, I will not be saving them for anything.

When the time comes, I'll be linking up to:

It was good to get the flimsy finished so that Matthew could see it when he came by yesterday to drop off his van. There have been no messages from him this morning, and so it seems safe to assume that his 5:00 a.m. flight to Houston took off as scheduled. He'll fly into Houston and then on to Guatemala City where he will be until the end of April. We'll miss him while he's gone, but I'm glad he's out living his life and choosing adventure when he can.

This is the view from my window as I'm writing this.

It looks like the birds could use a handout, and so I'll probably suit up and fill the bird feeders when I finish here. I'd like to get out and take some pictures while the snow is fresh. Mike just went out to chain up the tractor and plow our driveway.

As for the rest of the day, this will be my view. I'm getting ready to settle in and quilt the Hocuspocusville quilt.

It's time as a kitty fort has come to an end.

I'm guessing there will be Spanish coffees in this mix today. It's good to stay warm both inside and out, wouldn't you agree?

Oh yea, shiny floss. How could Sadie resist, just too tempting! My old Gizzy cat would have been trying to sit in the box with a look of What? I can't fit here? Hope your son has a great adventure. I am not envious of your snow, I am from the Chicago area and now live in Arizona. No snow for me-Thanks anyway.

Does Sadie fit in the snow globe box?

Of course Smitty thinks the view is best from the top of the cat tree. He's no fool!!!

Why do you mountain dwellers hoard all the snow so that us bottom dwellers get nothing? The three snow flakes we had overnight are long gone. The street is almost dry so its hard to tell it rained.

Loving your flimsy--i am starting a new string project this week--i love that mindless sewing; I will be making mine, as my usual wont ;))), on muslin squares...
STILL NO SNOW here--just howling winds 25 mph and bitter cold...
I made two more snowballs (see, I am conjuring snow even as I sew hah!)
this afternoon...Darling hubs went and got us a pizza and now I am relaxing...
Need to get going on Pomegranates--it's so close to a finish...Stay warm hugs, Julierose

Barbara,
WOW, you got a lot of snow. Down here in Jefferson, it rained all night, there was some snow this morning, but it is gone now. The kitties have the right idea with the snow.
Have a lovely rest of your day!

Glad you finally got your snow - we will see this stuff on Tues-Weds and then again Fri-Sat. I do love those Snowglobes and perfect snowflake fabric backing. I'm in quilting mode again and the furkids are 'testing' every square inch - hard to move a quilt with a fat furball on it.

Seeing the forecast the last few days, I knew you would soon share pictures like this. The snow is gorgeous as long as you don’t need to get out....so yes cuddle in where warm, have your Spanish coffee and enjoy sewing while enjoying the view.

We have been hearing about the snow in the north west! Being a Texas girl. I am always fascinated by it! You have some great photos.

I am way behind on the inch stitching. I remember reading about tracing some things and not others, but I can not find those directions. I have the coloring directions and it clearly tells me to read the tracing instructions.

What a lovely view! Especially since you don’t have to go out in it. As you have your new road I hope means that is plowed by the government, does that mean you plow your private drive and have a decent drive down the hill? We are raining off and on this weekend. A dry spell will follow then the "Pineapple Express" hits next week. By satellite view it appears to be a huge beast that will encompass San Diego to Crescent City. The Camille Camera bag is done with plenty of time to spare for hubby’s birthday. Stella did watch over the project while it rained. Staying warm and dry is preferred to our "cold" and rainy 40-50* weather we are having.

What a beautiful view out of your window! Is it still coming down? We are gearing up for Round 3 here; a little snow today, more coming Monday into Tuesday. Oy. So much for the mild winter. Glad you can be all tucked in and cozy while you watch your snowmagedon come through.

I'm coveting your snow as we've had very little and no more is currently predicted. Stay warm and enjoy the view. I must get on with my February goal as I haven't really started it yet.

Isn't the snow gorgeous when it just falls? I will never get tired of looking at it. That being said, we are supposed to get some on Tuesday. It's the shoveling that does me in.

Heehee, yeah the East is probably pointing at us. But, we'll be sending this stuff onto their backyard. We have about 3 inches here in Castle Rock and are expecting more tonight. Whee.

Love the stitchings you did!

I've had rescue cats in the house for over a year now and just don't get them. I was crocheting last night and one grabbed it. Trying to get that claw out without damaging my afghan was almost impossible. Cross stitching and embroidery..the same thing. What is the fascination with thread and yarn? Toys-not interested even if it has catnip in it. The boys love the catmint I grow but it's not available. Yesterday one jumped up to catch the "shadow" of a bird taking off and took half the mini blind with him. If I lived in the country I wouldn't have blinds but we have too much foot traffic in front of our house. I'm beyond myself with their shenanigans. I'm smack dab in the Midwest and what a wicked winter. Snow, rain, ice, the vortex. The snow is beautiful to look at but I'm the only one who shovels and my back is enjoying the break. We had a slight heatwave in the 40's so a lot of snow melted & it's a good thing because I was running out of places to put it. I'm jealous of those women who get so excited & happy because they're going to have a snow day where they just sit on their tush's stitching or sewing or quilting all day. Well, if they had to shovel the crap all the time they would know just how much I'd like to smack them. Just don't throw it in my face is all. I personally have more time to craft when it doesn't snow. I would get a snow blower but I hate pulling the cord on my "key start" mower so I can just imagine another cord to pull in the dead of winter. The key start only worked for about 4 years and quit. No wonder Sears cancelled the in home warranty and refunded part of my money. They knew what was coming. Enjoy the view and stay warm and dry. Hopefully you won't have to shovel.

It does look like a good day to stay in and quilt, especially when you can admire the view outside from the window. Your rainbow quilt is beautiful - love the secondary and tertiary patterns it creates.

I just had to come back and tell you that we didn't have any snow today and then I read this post and went to read another blogger's post. I looked out the window, and now we have a blanket of snow and it is coming down hard. I blame you and your snow globes. LOL

It looks to me like Sadie is getting ready to grab that piece of floss out of the Snow Globe box & help you with the last part of that last block. :)

Happy Trails to Matthew!!

The OMG quilt is awesome! The snow is beautiful too. I like snow but no more than twice a year and I like it to be gone in 3 days.
