It was a hard-fought battle in so many ways, but Wind in the Whiskers is a FINISH!!! Yesterday's effort was to embroider a face onto the sleeping cat, and to add some whiskers.
There was also beading in the centers of the dogwood blossoms all the way across the top of the quilt.
Then more whiskers on the tuxedo cat and the chipmunk.
Antennae to be added to the butterfly.
And whiskers on one final cat.
Smitty was happy to serve as my whisker model.
And now...it's hanging in my sewing room where I can look at it every day.
I started this quilt on August 29, 2013, and sadly, it still isn't my oldest UFO. Mulligan Stew has that honor...and it's still not finished. Five+ years in the making, Wind in the Whiskers is a finish as of December 26, 2018. Yahoo!!!
My December OMG was to finish top-stitching and quilting all of the areas outside the pink line, sew on the binding and finish the embellishing.
Now it's completely finished, and I'll be linking up to the December OMG Finished linky party.
Today, I have grocery shopping to do, and then I'll be moving on to the next thing. In tomorrow's post, I'll be looking backward at my finishes for 2018 and setting some goals for 2019. There are always more quilts to make, and a whole new year's worth of time to fill.

BIG CONGRATS on a lovely finish--Smitty seems to give his paw of approval, too...
Not much going on here--still need to remove decorations...and cutting for Lori's ("Humblequilts.blogspot) little Swiss Crosses tutorial....
hugs, Julierose
The theme from Rocky is playing in my head . . . congratulations!
Congrats on your long awaited finish. You should be proud of all the work you did. It’s a gorgeous quilt.
CONGRATULATIONS!
That's wonderful Barbara! Congrats on the finish and now the joy of being able to look at your accomplishment daily!
HooRay for your side !!! It turned out beautiful, as we all knew it would. It's been fun watching you work your way through to the end. Be safe at the grocery store :-)
Hurray for you! Fabulous finish and hard-fought for sure. Goals for next year, top of my list is to wake up each morning, everything else is icing on the cake.
Congratulations. That sure has been a labour of love and a glorious finish. You will be able to admire it every day now. Smitty as the look of approval there. Happy New Year.
I really like how you did the whiskers: I've been debating a little thread painting on my Mr Serious quilt but 3D whiskers like yours are so much more realistic and interesting to look at.
It is an absolutely awesome quilt!!! I admire each MR quilt you have made but know better than to attempt one myself. I will just enjoy seeing yours. I think completing that quilt is a wonderful accomplishment for 2018. Love seeing your projects and the cats.
Saw your finish at Elm Street Quilts and came over to see. I love this quilt. It is so fun. Congratulations on your finish.
Congrats! What did you use for the whiskers???
Congratulations. Let the fireworks sparkle! Wind in the Whiskers is truly a purrfect quilt. Glad to see it finished and on display in your sewing room. What a joy! Great job.
The 3D elements are amazing! What a lovely piece to hang in your sewing room. Looking forward to more beautiful inspiration in 2019. Happy New Year!
Congratulations on a huge accomplishment! This is such a whimsical, yet sweet quilt. Having a clean palette going into the New Year is a breath of fresh air.
Congratulations! That is such a great quilt I love it and hope that you might be entering it in a local quilt show in 2019 so I can get a close up look at it.
Congratulations on a great finish! You stuck with it and did it and deserve a great dessert! Such a great idea to hang it on the wall of your sewing room and look at it every day. I must say that the cats on the quilt are nowhere as cute as your own two-they are much more photogenic than the 3D ones on the McKenna Ryan quilt.
Amazing quilt top! Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and congrats on your finish!
This is a satisfying finish, for sure! Good that you have it hanging, so you can do an arm pump each time you walk by it, or a happy dance -- your choice! Maybe this is the year for Mulligan, huh? At any rate, I'll be here, waiting to see what's up next!
Woo hoo! Congratulations! I have some McKenna Ryan patterns I need to finish up as well. One is very similar construction to this one...ugh! You may have given me incentive to get it done though. Only about 10 years in the making!
Yay, you! There is surely satisfaction in getting this one out of the way, eh? Now you can admire it rather than wrestle with it.
I'm looking forward to your goal-setting. I've learned some things from reading your blog, and a big lesson has been that small steps, every day, will take you far. (I could have learned that from my mother, but sometimes it's easier to learn from someone a little further from home.) The idea of doing a bit of stitching every day is something I'm going to incorporate into my 2019 plans--both for my quilting progress and for my mental health.
quothe the raven, "NEVER MORE!" never again, not that designer! BUT BEAUTIFUL! Good to have that one no longer nagging at you! Right?
Congratulations on your December OMG finish. You can be very proud of yourself.
Congrats on a challenging finish! It's such a fun quilt, maybe not to make, but definitely to look at.
Congratulations! That is a ton of work and so many details... fabulous!
It is gorgeous! I know you are so glad to have it finished and hanging!
It really turned out fabulous. Nicely done.
