Stripping with Cats

You might recall I was going to get to work on making the black and white blocks for the Rainbow Jubilee quilt. This is my 2018 Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt. Having already sorted through my bins of blacks and whites, I had a large pile of black and white scraps to work from.

The "pile" is only the half of it. There's another pile of yardage outside the frame of that image above. Oh yes...I have a lot of black and white scraps. They were accumulated over time, but you might also recall when I made this quilt for a guild challenge. I bought a whole bundle of black and white fat quarters when I made this little Block Party quilt.

Truth be told, I probably already had enough blacks and whites in my stash, but you know quilters. We always need more, more, more scraps. Anyway...they'll have their day now.

So there I was cutting strip after strip after strip...I need 576 strips for this quilt...when the gang showed up.

Whatcha doin? Sewing?

The only thing more boring than sewing is RV travel.

Smitty, look what she's making! These fabrics match my furs purrfectly. Do you think this quilt is fur me?

Well, I wouldn't know about that, Sadie, but have you purrobed the bowels of the catnip bowl? Anything there fur us?

Hm...that's a good question, Smitty. I'll check. I don't see anything yet...maybe if we saunter around with our tails caressing her nose, she'll catch our drift.

That could work. Or we could just stand in the middle of things and furrown.
.

I have another idea, Smitty.

Maybe we could just purrostrate ourselves to the Catnip Gods. That might work.

Hm...I think the gang wants some catnip. Excuse me for just a moment.

Okay, carrying on...I cut at least a zillion strips yesterday. There was no sewing, but I'll get some done today.

My goal wasn't to cut all 576 strips, but to accumulate a good variety of fabrics. They've all been tossed in a bin. When I'm ready to sew, I'll just shake up the bin and start picking strips at random.

I've winnowed the pile some, but there's still some work to be done on the yardage.

Today I'll spend a little more time on the cutting, and then get to work on the sewing. To keep up with my goal of catching up by July, I need to make 16 black and white blocks each of the next three months. Think I can do it? I think so.

As for the rest of the day, no errands to run nor any place to be. I'm going to get to work on the laundry, but otherwise, it's going to be an NBS day. (Nothing but sewing.)

You still haven't taught the kitties to sew.

Fun post with the kitties. I hope they enjoyed their catnip and thanks for reminding me that I must get some more for Picasso.

I hope both Smitty and Sadie mellowed out after a bit of catnip. Looks like you've got a great start on the black and white blocks.

That is a beautiful quilt to make with the fabrics, love how they look together.
I see the kitties are quite happy to be home.

Yay, a NBS day! I love those, and I've had a few this week (including today). I recognize that black/white checkerboard. I have that fabric, which I used on the binding for the cat mat. How's your cat mat(s) coming along? Just had to ask. That's quite a bit of stripping there, and I'm pretty sure you'll easily meet your goals!

That is a good selection of black and white fabrics.

Sadie, I am helping Mom comment on your blog. I am walking between her and the key board and rubbing on her chin and hear bonking her chest. Then I can drag my tail across her mouth and nose do she gets a good coat of black fur! This is fun.

Maybe for you, Angel, but now I have to remove all of your lovely furs from the keyboard and me!

You are really getting into the stripping these days, aren't you Barbara? Good thing the kitties are there to make you take a catnip break once in a while.
