Like I said yesterday, I've put off doing those paper-pieced flowers on A Quiltmaker's Garden long enough, and so what's another day? In other words, I didn't do any yesterday, and I haven't done any yet today. Instead, we went and test drove a truck.
Now here's the thing: Mike has a new truck on order. (I can't remember if I've mentioned this before.) The new truck will look something like the one in the image above, although I think that is last year's model. Anyway...he ordered it back in September. We know it was built on October 31st. We expected it long before this, but we're still waiting. Apparently there is a log jam at the station where bed liner is sprayed into the truck bed. The log jam was supposed to have cleared on December 1st. Now, it's supposed to be December 31st, and who knows when the truck will actually arrive here in Portland, Oregon, from Somewhere, Kentucky. But that's okay. We decided to go test drive one since I've not seen the new one yet. We were out driving trucks around instead of paper-piecing. Phew. Saved again.
Speaking of Smitty...last night, he deigned to sit on my lap even though Sadie was already there. No hissing! This was a furrst.
There was a dusting of snow when we got up this morning. It was snowing when we went to bed last night.
We were in a transition from cold to warmer, and as I'm writing this, the snow is all gone. We've had a little of everything today, from brilliant sunshine to pouring rain. I spent part of the morning working on the Hocuspocusville stitchery. It's moving along.
It was kind of a busy morning. For one thing, I needed to feed my existing barm. And then today is the day the Virtual Group Bake starts on the Facebook Sourdough Bread Group. It's not too late to join in. A fairly large group, including people from all over the world, is beginning from scratch with sourdough starters. The starters will take about five days, and then we'll all be baking a loaf of bread. Both success and failure is encouraged. We're going to post pictures of our loaves and then compare notes. So I mixed up my starter this morning. I started with 50g of all-purpose flour and 50g of water. It looked like this:
Right after that, I left the house to go to the grocery store. By the time I got home, the starter was looking like this:
Having bubble action so early on is encouraging.
So, now I really am going to get to work on those paper-pieced flowers. Mr. Distraction has gone back to work and I'll be able to sew in peace. It's kind of a red letter day though. Today marks just four months until retirement. Better sew while I still can.

Wa-Hoo!! 4 months will fly by so you better not put off those paper pieced blocks any longer or they will never get done.
I forgot about the sourdough bake.....I will start some tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder. Sharon is right, 4 months is not long. Get those blocks done before Distraction Man stays at home more:) You will have to shop with him then, and keep him company, etc...fun really, but don't the men that.
I know what you mean about not getting anything done when the husband is home! I think those are my laziest days - like I don't want to do any work when I should be "spending time" with my hubby...
Let's just say I was blessed to have several years of retirement before my DH joined me. You can see the difference in my yearly quilt output now that we're both retired.
I love Distraction Men. Just sayin.
Smitty and Sadie, you two are so sweet to share mom's lap! I thought my man would be underfoot when he retired, but he ha not been. He had found all kinds of things to keep him busy! He is learning how to fix mechanical (non-computerized) sewing machines at the local Bernina shop.
As another person who has hubby home, I find that we have found a rhythm that works for us. Hubby and I meet for breakfast, lunch, dinner and evenings. The rest of the day we work on our own projects. There are days we do things together but mostly we each have activities that take up our days.
Glad to see the kitties are getting along so well. I'm looking forward to seeing your Quilters Garden finishing up. I think it is a pretty quilt.
When David's around I'm always complaining about not getting anything done, but remember Mike saved you from paper piecing so that makes him kind of a hero.
I had no idea having both of us retired and home at the same time would make things a little harder to get things done. I love it when he goes to play golf and I have the house to myself. My mom used to have sourdough starter around and it made the best bread. Can't wait to see your loaf!
It's too bad there's not a Hubbycare so we can drop our husbands off and then pick them up at the end of the day. Mine follows me around and gives me notes about doing the laundry more efficiently, loading the dishwasher to get the dishes cleaner, and adding spices to my cooking. 45 years of doing without his help and NOW he thinks I need it. Urrrrr........
When my Dad retired, so did my Mom. She did the laundry and some cooking and dishwashing. Dad did all the vacuuming, dusting, and cleaned the bathrooms, about half the cooking and dishes. If Dad had told Mom how to do any chore more efficiently, she would have told him the job was now his and turned around to do something she wanted to do. Just set some boundaries for each of you and you will be fine. Happy new year to all.
Hopefully Mike has his own set of hobbies that can keep him busy at home when you are in the sewing room. Both of us are home on vacation this week and Drama Teen is in Florida. We do stuff together in the morning and then get to do our own thing in the afternoon. It's the only way I can keep him sane without him dragging me off to somewhere else for an entire day!
