Blogger's Quilt Festival: Colorful Colorado

AmysCreativeSide.com

Hey there! Good morning and thanks for stopping by! Thanks to Amy's Creative Side for hosting the Blogger's Quilt Festival. Today I'm here to show off my "Colorful Colorado" quilted wall hanging.

I made this quilt as an entry into the Let's Book It challenge hosted by Vrooman's Quilts. The quilt pattern is from this book by Jean Wells:

Some of the fabrics are hand-dyes from Vicki Welsh. The leaves are stitched in matching threads (as much as I was able to match them) and the applique top-stitching served as the quilting.

It's hard to see the quilting on the back, and so I've turned down the brightness and bumped up the contrast to make it easier to see.

When all the leaves were stitched, I started in on the green border. That's one of Vicki Welsh's hand-dyed fabrics in the border.

The quilting extends the tree trunk and branches out into the border. Across the bottom, I added some vegetation.

Along the sides, the branches extend out from the quilt's interior.

After I had the binding sewn on, I laid it down in the natural light of the living room and was able to get a passable picture of the back.

My friend from high school, Carol Cole Galloway, lives in Colorado. Carol has taken beautiful pictures of the Aspen Trees in her local area, and this is one of her images.

Since she was on my mind while I was making the quilt, I surprised her by giving it to her as a gift.

This is my 10th time participating in the Blogger's Quilt Festival. I started blogging in July of 2010 and started participating in the quilt festival in the Fall of 2010. You can see my previous entries into the Blogger's Quilt Festival right here:

For this Spring, 2015 Festival, I entered two quilts. You can see my other quilt, "Psycatdelic," right here.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you enjoy the rest of the show. Now head on back to the festival and give my fellow participants some quilty love.
