The Weather Outside is Frightful

Just before I sat down to write this, I looked at the temperature: 17°F with a windchill of 9°F. Yes, compared to you foul weather folks, we are panty waists here. Snow is falling fast, and it would be accumulating if the wind weren't blowing so hard.

I was out feeding the birds earlier, poor things. Honestly, I don't know how little birdies survive, and since I've been feeding them this winter, they sit in rows looking in the window crying their little birdy eyes out and filling out their advance directives. When I can't take it any more, I fill the feeders, as I did this morning.

Also this morning I needed to check in with my primary care doctor for some lab work. Read that: Bloodsucking. I drank a lot of water yesterday in preparation. In old age, my veins have shrunken until they are difficult to find for all but the most experienced of phlebotomists. Too bad the rest of my body hasn't shrunken along with my veins. And don't say a word about the extra padding between the phlebotomist and my veins. I'm warning you.

Anyway, yesterday was almost a complete waste of a perfectly good day at home. I spent the day sleeping off my muscle relaxants and pain medication while resting my shoulder on my heating pad. The only worthwhile thing I did all day was to bake a black bottom peanut butter pie at Mike's behest. We went to see Gravity last weekend, but we ate out ahead of time. The restaurant served peanut butter black bottom pie, and if we hadn't been so full from dinner, we probably would have ordered some. Mike would have, anyway. I'm not much of a peanut butter fan myself. Except for PBJ's. The best sandwich ever, in my humble opinion.

So to get back to the pie, it doesn't photograph very well because it's really just a heap of whipped up cream with some peanut butter mixed in.

In fact, I'd be so bold as to say right here and now that black bottom peanut butter pie is pretty much 80% fat and 20% sugar. Definitely not intended for someone watching what they eat. Unless by "watching" you mean actually watching, like when I kept opening the refrigerator door to see if it was set up yet. In that way, I was definitely watching it.

I did absolutely no sewing, no housework, nothing beyond emptying the dishwasher so I could clean up the mess made while creating the pie. Today hasn't been much better, although I did go to the grocery store to stock up on food for the next few days. We've been promised a virtual snowpocalypse, which generally falls into the realm of 1-3 inches here in Portland. We know what to do when it snows, but we don't much like doing it, and the city pretty much grinds to a halt once the flakes start flying.

So that's where I am today. My shoulder is completely recovered after my day of sloth yesterday. I have a few things to do on the computer, but then I really AM going to do some sewing. I'll be starting on sewing together the top for Matthew's Intel Underneath quilt, but I won't finish it today. I'm still mulling over what to do about the back, but my intent is to use of the fabric left over from the front.

I hope it's a little warmer in your neck of the woods because it's pretty effing cold here...definitely among the coldest days I've seen in 36 years of living in the Portland suburbs.

It has been a very cold day here in the Southeast, don't think it got above freezing today. I suppose that is better than when we had single digits recently. It was hard trying to convince the outdoor cats to stay indoors, but I managed it. The thing that is about to get the best of me now is the gray, gloomy sky. All I want to do is snuggle under a quilt with my tablet and read a book or browse Pinterest. But on the bright side, I do have a lot of new quilt patterns that I want to try now!

Well it is a little warmer here - 36C today, then 40C tomorrow (have no idea what that is in F). Next week will be nice, 27C on Monday then in the 30's all week. We have the hottest night on record coming up this weekend, it will get down to a minimum of 30C - not good sleeping weather! I am pretty sure the kids will be camping out in my sewing room with the air con on!

We got all the way up to 3 degrees today but the sun is shining right now! It seems like the weather everywhere has gone bonkers! I was glad to hear that your shoulder has completely recovered. It's good to just take a day off now and then.

Very cold here in Hopewell Cape NB. I think I am ready for spring. We will be heading to Portland in a week and a half to fly out to New Orleans and then a cruise,a Western. Looking forward to some warm weather. Looking forward to checking out Portland. Hope to find a couple of sewing shops on our way. I am getting a lot of sewing done in this weather though. Have a good one.

We got snow, sleet then rain, yesterday so the ground is frozen snow now. I always try to fill mine before the storms, they love coming out in the rain and snow.

Your temps pretty match what we had today, except we didn't get a lot of snow, just a few flakes this morning. Glad your shoulder is feeling much better. Hope you got in your stitching time today.

We finally got to 7 degrees today. We were on a shop hop all day, and, when we started it was -2 degrees outside. At least we didn't get any snow today. I'm sick of this winter!!!!!

Glad your shoulder is feeling better. I am a victim of similar stress issues. Especially when I am working on stuff where I might hunch myself over it. It actually warmed up here for a few days, and is cooling down again. That pie sounds good to me. I am a big fan of peanut butter. I hope you got to enjoy some relaxing sewing today.

Glad to hear your shoulder is some better. Yes, it was cold enough here that I had to bring the hummingbird feeder inside several times to thaw it quickly and get it back outside for the little guys who were flying around chirping madly. Also been quite a chore to keep the stray kitty's water bowl thawed and ready. But happily there's only about 2 inches up on our hill at the moment. We seem to have escaped the worst of it...so far.

I don't think it got out of the teens today but will be in the 50's on Saturday! Hard to know how to pack for a retreat!

I was out looking after the birds too, today. But for the opposite reason. I am making sure there is plenty of water for them as we are having extreme heat.
I tend to stay indoors as much as possible on these days. Sometimes I get a lot done - others, nothing. That's the way it goes.

What I wouldn't give for a bit of what you're having! All that snow! We're melting over here in South Australia (although its not as hot as it has been but I'm completely over summer I'm afraid!) 42 degrees celcius here tomorrow and not a lot better next week. Dread to think what my electricity bill is going to be like next time. I can't remember a time when we've had the airconditioner running for such long stretches. You keep warm and I'll sit in the freezer to cool down!

It is very cold for us in Central Texas. Yesterday was 19 degrees! Midmorning we got a little dusting of snow, literally no accumulation though. I took our SUV to the local Ford dealership for an annual inspection. The man told me he couldn't do it today because he would slide when he tested the brakes!!!! Slide where??!!! The roads were completely dry! Even though I was extremely frustrated, I had to laugh! I'm from southwest Missouri and he would be out of business if he were there!

I'm very jealous of your snow so please send some over here. Here in London the weather has been wet but quite warm at around 4 - 10 degrees C.

Sorry you were not feeling up to doing much, but we are all entitled to a little R&R at home in our warm comfy beds/couches. I woke up to a minus 9 degree temperature this morning and believe me, I didn't want to get out of my warm covers! Brr. The sun is shining though, so all is not bad. Spring is just around the corner -- so they say!

This winter has been nothing but extra cold here and I'm beyond tired of it. Spring can't come soon enough.

Brrr! It's now 52f here at 10:50pm -ish. I learned to approximate C to F when Judy lived in Australia = double the degrees C + 30. So 15c X 2 = 30 + 30 = 60f. Not exact, but close enough!

I've been housesitting since Friday - no computer! I could bring my laptop, but since their WiFi has the same name as mine, I have to log in there, then back in again at home & Barry's passcode is a PAIN! lol
So, no computer, no sewing machine - but I had my Kindle AND real TV! Watched Olympics & lots of 'on demand'.
Glad your shoulder has revived from the rest. :)
