This and That

There are just a few things I want to tell you before I get on with my day. I have a lot to do today, but I'm going to try to intersperse it with some sewing. I'm still trying to get "The Birds Return" off my to-do list. Don't know if I'll make it or not. But here's the thing: I wasn't going to do a blog post this morning, but then yesterday I posted on my Facebook page about what a klutz I was yesterday evening. Some of my "friends" thought it was so danged funny (and may I just say, "Thanks a whole lot!" to everyone who got a chuckle out of my clumsiness) that I should post it on my blog. Well, I'm not proud. Obviously, or I'd keep my mouth shut when I do stuff like this.

So here's what happened, and I'll just cut and paste since it's way too painful to tell the story again:

Walking disaster: So, I get home from the grocery store, and I want to marinate a brisket in red wine and other goodies overnight to braise low and slow tomorrow afternoon. I don't have enough red wine in the bottle already opened, and so I open another bottle. Only, it's one of those with a screw top, and I'm damned if I can get the top off. So then I try getting the foil off, realizing fairly soon that I'm going to poke my eye out if I continue. So then I use our foil cutter, which very slickly takes the entire top of the bottle off. Oy. Now it's a very sharp bottle top, as you might guess. No problem, I say. I just pour myself a glass and finish off my marinade. I'm making the marinade in a gallon zip-lock bag, the way I always do, but then I realize that the brisket is too big to fit in said bag with the rest of the marinade. So then I get out a large oval casserole. Too small, of course, but I dirty a dish trying it on for size. So then I try the next size up. Big enough for the brisket, but not when I try to pour the marinade in. No problem. I get out yet a bigger bowl, and as I'm trying to retrieve the brisket from the red wine marinade, it slips from my fingers with a nice big splash, sending red wine marinade all over the floor and all over my clothes. Good thing I already had a glass of wine because I'm going to need more when that's gone. Good thing I'm done handling sharp objects for the evening.

Go ahead. Laugh your head off. (I'm watching, and I'm taking names, but don't let that bother you. You'll never see it coming. Oh yes. It will come.)

But that's okay. I'm feeling better since spying this out of my living room window this morning. I'm breathing in the peace and calm, and today will be a better day.

Some mornings we wake up in the sunshine, while the valley is in fog. Then, as I sit there, the fog rolls up the hill, obscuring the mountains, and I can watch it coming.

But the real reason I got on here this morning is because I wanted to tell you about a blogging event I heard about recently. Sewyouquilt2 is starting up a Relaxing Robin on her blog. It's a round robin without the stress of swapping. You'll do it all in your own sewing room on your own quilt according to the schedule she's set up...or skip the schedule...it's supposed to be relaxed, right? Looks like fun, and what a great way to get started on your January NewFO project!

Speaking of NewFO's, the December linky party went live this morning. Don't miss out on the last needle nanny of the year.

Okay...off to parts, pranks and phenomena unknown. (Not-so-Awesome Alliteration.)

Been there, done that, NOT laughing. Good tip to start drinking early in the process, though.

I love watching the fog in the morning, in maine it rolls off the lakes as the sun comes out. I am a clutz too, so I know how you feel, lol.

Oh, no!! Did the wine come out of your clothes alright? Sounds like the kind of thing I would do. ;D

I love when the fog swirls in among the trees - so mysterious. Your view is a lot like ours on these foggy days.

If I dared to cook (thankfully, I have Bruce for that), I'm sure that I would win the gold for clumsiness. I once sliced my hand loading the dishwasher. And I am really bad at choosing the proper sized container for preparing food for cooking or putting leftovers in. At least you had your glass of wine! Thanks for the link on the relaxed robin. I will be checking that out. I hope that you and your family have a safe and happy new year! I look forward to another year of reading your daily adventures.

Oh dear, I didn't laugh. I felt really bad for you.

Thanks for the link up to the "round robin" -- I need to consider how I can fit that in with my own Linky party schedule!

Happy New Year to you and yours.

No laughing here. I've been officially dubbed container handicapped. I can't open anything right or without injuring myself. (This is apparently an inherited trait as Drama Teen suffers from it as well).

Hope this day has been more relaxing.

Ok I still laughed and laughed and sooo glad you made a blog post about it. It was the way you told it. Always the great storyteller. Hmmm have to check out that round robin.

Poor Barbara! Hope you brushed it off with nothing hurt (more than your sensibilities) and got a good day of stitching in!! :)

Sounds like a normal day in my kitchen....except for the brisket, red wine, plethora of bowls, sharp glass tops, problems with foil liners, and everything else. HA! Glad nothing got injured other than your ego. Have a wonderful New Year!

I bail on opening almost anything. I just hand it to my hubby as he's much better at opening things than me. Sure hope you enjoyed that meal. Happy New Year!!

You are a treasure Barbara! I shall have to watch my back 'cos I laughed, and laughed and laughed some more. Thank you for sharing that. It just shows what a good sport you are.
We have fog (or is it mist?) over the water quite often and it is an interesting sight to watch it rolling away.

Oh. And you are a great story teller too ;-)

I don't think you are alone at all in this happening.

Life is good when we can laugh at ourselves and with others. (Being able to turn it into a good story is an extra plus.) Thanks for the laugh and the link. I love round robins and like this concept.

Once I read about making fraternal twins. Keeping a duplicate of the center that was sent for a RR and finishing it. Fun to see the different results.

I know how you feel. OK, I did laugh when you posted it on f'book, I admit it. But I've done that sort of thing too, and if you don't laugh, you just end up crying & that makes the food too salty, right? Right!

I'm going to check out the relaxed robin now...
