Bloggers' Quilt Festival: Let Sleeping Cats Lie

Amy'sCreativeSide

Whew!  This one was finished just in a nick of time!  Isn't it great to have these blogging events to kick start your sewing?  I'm so happy to be participating in this even.  Thank you to Amy's Creative Side for hosting.  If you're only just learning about the Bloggers' Quilt Festival, just click on the button above to take you to the linky party.  You can see lots of beautiful work from the many participants.  Here's my entry.

This quilt is called "Let Sleeping Cats Lie" and it's from the Helene Knott pattern by the same name.  The original pattern used all neutral colors, but I had this colorful border I wanted to use,

and so I decided to make the cats all different colors with contrasting machine embroidery for the faces.  It was quilted by my talented quilter, Tammi Ortega.  Tammi is so creative, and she knows just what I like without me telling her.  She quilted flowers and cats, which go perfectly with the border.

Can you see the cat's face quilted next to the applique cat's face?

Oh, and I can't forget the mice in the middle.  I was going to use beads for their eyes (thank you, Quiltzyx!), but then I found these jet black hot fix crystals and decided to use those instead.

I tried to get George to sit on it to show you what a real cat looks like, but he opted to admire it from above.  Kitties are like that.

I hope you like my quilt!

And I can't miss this opportunity to shamelessly promote my own blog event, Occupy Your Sewing Room!, which will run from December 3 - 10, 2011.  During that time, occupy your sewing room for a full day or as much time as you can spare, then link up on December 11, 2011.  I'll be giving away a jelly roll to one lucky participant, chosen at random.  Get the skinny by clicking right here!
