This and That

Today I added the sashing and the connecting squares to the first block for my "Day in the Life of Mr. Bear" quilt.  As a part of a larger piece, it is connected by little checkerboard squares and pinwheels.

This is the center block, and the half square triangle at the top right corner is the southwest corner of the pinwheel.  I was dying to see how my fabrics are going to look.  The narrow inner border of the sashing is the fabric I'll be using for the outer border of the quilt.

Now it'll have to wait for the remaining eight blocks to be finished.  I decided to build each block as I finish the embroidery.

After that, I started on the Christmas swap I'm participating in.  We're swapping Christmas-related crafts.  I'm making four small paper-pieced blocks that will be incorporated into a wall-hanging.  Today, I made the Santa block.

I'll put black beads where his eyes go and then a red bead for the mouth.  This block is about four inches square, including the border.  These can also be made into coasters or Christmas tree ornaments, but I'm making a small wall-hanging.  It will look like this when it's finished.

I'll embellish it with beads, ribbon and embroidery when it's all finished.  The blocks are small, and so there won't be much quilting.  Cute, huh?  I'm hoping to finish the four blocks by Monday when I need to get going on the last of my cat blocks.  Now that I've set the goal of finishing my four longest-standing projects by the end of the year, I have myself on a rigid sewing schedule.  Rigid on paper.  In practice . . . not so much.

You picked great border fabrics for your stitchery. The Santa block is adorable even without the eyes and mouth. Have a wonderful weekend, Barbara!
