Good morning, my friends. These multi-appointment weeks are going to wear me down. I saw the dentist yesterday for a check-up and cleaning. Today I'm getting my monthly pedicure. The pedicure is nice, but it still means time out of the day, driving, traffic, and being away from home. I'm a homebody. There's no place I'd rather be, and so going out several times a week for two weeks running is wearisome.
Before leaving home yesterday, I had time to stitch the 8th Tiny Treasure. This one has stem stitch, stem fill, straight stitch, and French knots.
Also, I looked out to see the tree outside putting on its best show of the season. I expect it'll begin to drop it's leaves soon. For now, it's very pretty.
When I got home from the dentist, the sun was shining. My first stop was to check on the Firefighter dahlia. It's so, so close. Maybe by tomorrow it'll be open. Or maybe the next day. We’re expecting rain by the weekend, so there’s a little time.
Back inside, I did some thinking and measuring. I realized I have enough of this fabric for the sashings on my quilt, but not enough for the outer border. (I hadn't made a decision to use it in the border earlier, but now I have.)
So I found more of that and ordered it. Also, I love the brown below. I'll use the last of it with this quilt. It's been such a good color, and so versatile, I hoped I could find more of this one too. So, I went on a search, found some more, and ordered that as well. Because what I really need in life is more fabric. I'm sure you understand.
I’m a little concerned about this, though. I used Paypal to pay for my purchase. Then, later, received an email from Paypal telling me the seller had increased the amount due by $4.50. It’s not a lot of money, but how can they increase the price without my permission? And then I started looking more closely at
the site itself. It’s beginning to look a little fishy to me. Whatever the case, I’ve lodged a dispute with Paypal. I’d still buy the fabric if they can come up with some reason for the increase that makes sense. If not, I trust Paypal to assist me in cancelling the order and refunding my money if it turns out to be some kind of scam.
That took a good part of the afternoon. When I finally got to work in the sewing room. I cut all the pieces I'd need for the sashing.
And I fussy cut all the cornerstones I'd need from this fabric…20 in all.
There were four different designs in this fabric. I cut five of each, and then laid them out with the sashing. This is how my blocks will look when I start sewing them together.
That was all I had time for sewing yesterday.
We'd read that last night was a good night for viewing the
Lemmon Comet. I'd read that the comet’s current orbital period is approximately 1,350 years. But after its closest approach to our sun on November 8, the sun's gravity will reduce that to 1,150 years. That means the next chance for earthbound observers to see it will be around the year 3175. Maybe you'll be here then, but we won't. For us, it's now or never.
So we decided to head west to a restaurant we like for dinner. Mike had figured out what direction to look. After dinner, we headed out to a remote and unlit place and tried to find it. Mike has an astronomy app on his phone that he could point directly to the spot where the comet should be. We saw nothing. Not even with binoculars. That’s what happens with these hyped celestial events almost 100% of the time. Usually, it’s our cloudy skies that prevent us from seeing anything. This time…no excuses. The sky was clear. Shakes fist at the heavens. They got us again.
But you know I never let the lack of a picture stop me. I found this one in the public domain.
Okay, so I’m hoping to get some time to sew today, but I don’t expect to get home until mid-afternoon. All these appointments are getting in the way of my sewing time. It’s not a happy thing, but I suppose we’ll survive. Thank goodness there’s still plenty of time for slow stitching. Up next, I’ll be stitching the ninth Tiny Treasure. And off I go. Enjoy your day. Current events continue threatening to make my head explode. Possibly a helmet is in order. It won’t stop the explosion, but it will contain the mess.

I’m loving those Tiny Treasures!
That site does look iffy. Did you see that they misspelled “fabric” as “faabric” in their masthead? I looked up their domain name, and the owner info is “private”, but the domain registrar is a Chinese company. And their Contact page has nothing but a gmail address. Dot
I sure hope your fabric purchase turns out OK, with no more surprises. My husband has often spent lots of time outside looking for comets, etc. so I bought him a nice telescope last Christmas. And unfortunately we learned quickly that we have a LOT of nights with overcast skies.
Your tree is gorgeous. I mostly get yellow or brown colors in my neighborhood. I hope your fabric purchase ends up being valid. So much fake stuff out there these days. Sigh. I, too, have attempted to see the Lemmon comet and so far I've seen nada.
LOL! I know how you feel! I want a suit like the Michelin Man's! Safety first!
