A Big Finish

Good afternoon, my friends. I'm late with today's post because I went to the Beaverton Farmer's Market with Erik and Mae this morning. I was on the hunt for rhubarb, and SCORE!! Happy about that. We stood admiring the beautiful daffodil bunches that were for sale while we waited for our breakfast.

We didn't purchase any of the daffodils, but Mae purchased some tulips and some starts for their vegetable garden.

Look at the pretty centers on these daffodils.

So, it was a successful trip to the market. Everyone got what they wanted. It was raining as I drove to meet up with Erik and Mae at their house. It also rained on the way home. In between...when it really mattered...it was dry and relatively warm. So, it was a good trip all around. Spending the morning with Erik and Mae always gets the day off to a good start.

When I finished my Bowflex workout yesterday, I needed to get out and fill the bird feeders. I noticed that our cherry trees are in bloom. Sadly, we'll miss the cherries this year. We'll encourage the neighbors to come up and pick them.

Back inside, I baked a Chocolate Self-Saucing Cake for Two. I'm giving you the link to the recipe. Scroll to the bottom of the post to find it. My mother called this a pudding cake. It's cake on top, chocolate pudding on the bottom. ("Chocolate cacapooey," is how my brother-in-law, Phil, would have described it if he were still with us.) We enjoyed that with a scoop of vanilla ice cream last night.

While that baked, I went to work finishing the binding for Jericho Walls. After turning the fourth corner...

I still needed to stitch about 2/3 of the final side, but that puppy is finished!! Yahoo!! This was my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt in 2022, and so I'll be linking up there today.

Pretty sure I took a nap at that point. When I woke up, I went back to work on the top border for The Story of My Day. There were some pieced sections.

And then I sewed those to what I had from the day before.

Then I pieced this next section. This one will require another windmill, and so I'll start there today. This seemed like a good place to stop, and that's where I left it when I turned off the lights to the sewing room.

The kitties were still bent on catching the mouse they'd lost behind the china cabinet. They sat there the whole live-long day and into the evening.

Just as we were dropping off to sleep last night, I heard some scuffling outside the bedroom door. As I suspected, the mouse had come out of hiding, and there was a game of mouse hockey underway.  Without too much difficulty, I was able to literally snatch the mouse from the jaws of death and liberate it to the outdoors. I suspect it was bitten and will probably die out there, but at least the kitties can get some rest. And so could I.

So it already feels late in the day. I'm tired and want a nap. If there's time left this afternoon, I'll get busy finishing off the rest of the border for The Story of My Day. No promises, though. I might do nothing at all. Some days are like that. Today might be one of them.

We had an enormous rhubarb patch at home and my mother forced me to eat that stuff without any sugar for most of my childhood. ~ Hugh Dennis

Your quilt is beautiful . . . your season is truly ahead of ours, my rhubarb is just starting to break through the grow. I make a sauce with mine and then if company is coming I make a batch of pie crust. Then I make what I call rhubarb sundaes ... vanilla ice cream topped with my sauce and then I stick a wedge of pie crust into the top. I have a niece that every time she visits she asks for this for dessert :)

Your Jericho Walls quilt is impressive. As I admired it, I was thinking that the choice of background fabric for this relatively simple pattern made all the difference! This was an inspiration for me to think more about background choices. Thanks! And wish Smitty a belated happy birthday from me.

I almost didn't recognize Jericho Walls. The grey background makes the design different somehow. It is just gorgeous! Love the addition of little black squares in the border. Bravo for this wonderful finish. Thanks for the link to the recipe. It looks so good. Enjoy! ;^)

Congratulations on a great quilt finish! The mouse story sends a shiver up my spine, kudos for intervening in the game. Thanks to Connie for sharing the enticing rhubarb dessert idea.

Congrats on the finish! Jericho Walls turned out beautifully. I agree some times we just need lazy days.

A huge yahoo over finishing Jericho Walls! I'm sure you were pretty happy to have it done and I have to say the effort was worth it because it turned out wonderfully.
Glad to know the mouse hunt was successful. Hate to think of one of those critters in the house.

I think just going to a Farmer's Market to see all the color would be fun, so I'm glad you were able to spend the morning with Erik and Mae. I know that's a favorite event for you. Yay for ridding the house of the mouse, and for the Jericho finish!
