Good morning, my friends. Before I go any farther, please join me in wishing this handsome fellow a very happy 13th birthday. He's a teenager now.
It's hard to remember that he once looked like this:
Even at this young age, his bedroom eyes were already apparent.
He's not as spry as he once was, and he's reached an age in cat years where anything can happen...much like his human slaves. So far, he's doing pretty well. We notice him looking as if he's moving painfully at times, but it never lasts. And who among us doesn't suffer from the old "rheumatiz" every now and then. So, anyway, Happy Birthday, Buddy. Live long and prospurr.
Sadie was kind enough to hunt down a mouse for him. Yes, a mouse...in the house. They promptly lost it behind the china cabinet there. Now they're posted on either side of the cabinet, waiting it out.
Yesterday morning we had grocery shopping to do. There wasn't time for slow-stitching in the morning. When we were home and everything put away, then, and only then, could I take the first stitches on April's block for A Year in the Garden.
After that, I stitched another two long lengths of thread. I stitched within about six inches of the fourth corner. I'll finish this up today. Knowing it'll be finished by this afternoon makes me want to get going on it.
After that, I moved into the sewing room to start the top border for The Story of My Day. This is the border I'm making now.
After yesterday's effort, I'm about 1/3 of the way across.
Sadie was going to help me until she saw this pawsitively terrible mess of scraps. Well. She can't work in a messy space.
Instead, she snoopervised from her little bed. (This is the same bed in Smitty's picture above. It's been used by many a cat.)
So I did as much piecing on the border as made sense.
And then I added two more windmills.
Probably, I won't finish this today, but I'll do as much as I can.
So there's not a whole lot on today's agenda. I'm toying with the idea of making us a dessert tonight, but I'm not ready to commit. There are a couple of small housekeeping chores, and I'd like to get in a Bow-flex workout. I'll probably be late with my post tomorrow. It's looking like a decent day of weather, and so I'm going to head to the farmer's market with Erik and Mae. Rhubarb has made an appearance at the farmer's market, although there was none at the grocery store yesterday. As I mentioned, we're having our neighbors over for dinner next week, and I'd really like to bake a Rhubarb Upside-Down Cake for dessert. Hopefully, I'll find it at the farmer's market tomorrow. And, hopefully, this forecast will hold. One never knows during spring in the Pacific Northwest.
Okay, so slow-stitching is next, and then I'll get on with the rest of my day. What's going on at your end today?

Happy Birthday, Smitty!!!
Happy birthday to Smitty! Such a handsome fellow. Hope you have many more years with him!
Ohh! Happiest of birthdays dear Smitty!!! 🎂 Yes, he does have dreamy eyes and such a handsome guy😻.
Yes, I survived the dreaded colonoscopy this morning and you were right, the prep was the worst along with being so hungry 🤤. It didn’t help that so many people on tv or on YouTube were eating. Before they put me under I asked if the lady before me made it ok and the nurse laughed. Four polyps 😢. I celebrated being alive by a Cracker Barrel lunch, yum!
I wish we had a better farmer’s market like yours, have fun!
Happy Birthday Smitty!! Wishing you a great one, and many more to come!!
Barbara, I forgot to send you a comment to let you know to count me in for the Alaska trip…cannot wait!
We are having some strange weather in Virginia…cold one day, warm the next. Sometimes we get both on the same day! And the pollen is off the charts this year. We were going somewhere a few days ago, and the pollen was blowing across the road like we were in a dust storm!! And everyone’s cars are coated in the yellow stuff….I am ready to move one and leave the pollen behind!

Happy Birthday Smitty!

Happy Birthday Smitty!!!
All of our many cats made it to 19 years and beyond. Vet visits, tasty high quality food, and lots of love.
I bet your twosome will, too.
The weather here in the middle of nowhere has been quite strange: from no covers because it was too warm to a doubled comforter last night because it was "freezing".
Happy birthday Smitty! There is no way he's 13! I remember when you brought him home. Time certainly flies. Hope you got all the stitching done you were hoping too.
Happy Birthday Smitty! You handsome, intense, beautiful hunk of mancat. Have a wonderful birthday and get lots of lovies from your humans.
Thanks for all the wonderful pictures of flowers. I have faith that about a month from now I will have flowers too. Hummingbirds in May.
Happy 13th Birthday Smitty. You certainly are aging well and more good looking every year. I hope you and Sadie catch that mouse today.
Happy Birthday, and many more, Smitty! A mouse for birthday dinner sounds good! Dot in NC
Happy Birthday to Smitty! I never put two and two together and realized he and Eleanor Pearl are the same age! She turned 13 in January. And hey! I'm now a cat mom ... and Starry and Celeste send their best wishes, too! Your April stitchery is cute ... can't wait to see it finished!! :)
Happy Birthday Smitty. Sorry to ask but doesn't the month of April have an R in it. If so the sitchery needs ammendment.
Happy Purrthday, Smitty! From your furrends Alfalfa (Alfie) and Darla. We’re celebrating our 12th purrthday next month!
Pawsitively sending special birth day scritches to Smitty! Methinks I'm a tad late with the wishes, but I don't suppose he'll mind.
Happy Birthday Smitty, may you have many more to come. I love the April stitchery.
