Four Projects

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day in my sewing room yesterday. Progress was made on four projects. First off, I finished quilting the right side of Jericho Walls, including the row of setting triangles.

Now I've rotated the quilt 180° where there are two more rows of blocks and another row of setting triangles. If all goes as expected, I should be ready to quilt the outer border by Wednesday.

Next, I traced out two more blocks for Raggedy & Friends.

That would have been the day's quota, but I had a piece of fabric just the right size to do the next one, and so I did that too.

I'll trace out two more for Block 10 today. Almost all the embroidered sections are traced now, and I can get my "kit" made up for traveling. I haven't done a single other thing to prepare for our trip beyond mapping and planning our route. But now I can say the sewing is ready to go. We do have our priorities, don't we?

Speaking of purriorities, Smitty was there to help me finish sewing together the blocks for The Story of My Day. You should know he has limited time in his busy schedule. He wanted us to quit messing with those Raggedies and get busy with the sewing.

With his help, I sewed all the blocks together.

Here's a picture of the finished quilt included in the pattern book. You can see the inner border is made from strips of scraps. The outer border is pieced in the way the block borders were.

The outer border also includes these "windmills."

When I first looked at this I thought it was going to require paper-piecing. It doesn't, but the instructions for these are for needle turn applique. I'm going to do fusible machine applique for mine. There's no reason to do it any other way. I'm thinking if I do them as I go, I can probably get it accomplished without driving myself crazy.

But before I did any of the above, I spent some more time on the 9th block for Grandpa's Bridges. Stitching the treetops...

Allowed me to move my hoop down a little to encompass the last of it. Probably I still have a couple more days of work on this.

But it's not too soon to trace out three more blocks for the "S" is for Sew quilt. If memory serves, there are nine blocks for this quilt. I've been doing them three at a time. Here are the three I have for this quilt so far.

It's going to be a routine day here. I need to bake something for our pre-breakfast snack. Today I'll be trying a new recipe for Lemon-Blueberry Muffin Cookies. I'm linking to the recipe, but I haven't tried it yet. The description makes them sound pretty good. There's been no exercise for several days, and so I want to take a walk on the treadmill today. (I've been avoiding the Bowflex while I'm quilting Jericho Walls, giving my wrist and elbow a break.) There are a couple of easy housekeeping chores to do today, but then it'll be all sewing.

We've seen both rain and sunshine this week, which is our usual spring weather. We can get a little of everything in a single day. This morning I noticed in my Facebook memories that we'd eaten outside for the first time on this day a few years back. We won't be doing that today, but it's just another hopeful sign. We might all survive another winter here in the northern hemisphere.

Okay so slow-stitching is next, and then I'll get on with the rest of my day. How are things going at your end?

You don't have to love cooking to cook, but you have to do more than love baking to bake. You have to bake out of love. ~ Tom Junod

The Story of My Day is looking good, you are close to another finish there. Hope you get in a mostly nothing but sewing day today.

I should've done some sewing today, but I snuggled with Wilbs instead while we watched the rain and snow fall.

Sigh, a work day for me but I made progress at work. About ready to settle into some hand stitching after a short walk. Love the bridge and the quilt. How did the muffin cookies turn out?
