Good morning, my friends. The day was much more energetic yesterday. I was feeling back to my normal self, "normal" being a relative term. I don't know about you, but none of my relatives are normal. We were having some leftover Brunswick Stew from the freezer for our dinner, and so I started my day by baking some bread to go on the side. This is Cast Iron Beer-Batter Cheese Bread.
While the bread was baking, I was busy getting my housekeeping chores done. After lunch, I could head into the sewing room to work on the Merry, Merry Snowmen. When I left it last week, it looked like this:
The buttons were laid out for that picture, just for show. There were 13 buttons in all. Continuing on, my first step was to do the top-stitching around the applique edges, and then I used the triple stitch on my sewing machine to machine-embroider some of the lines. When I'd done all I could on the sewing machine, it looked like this:
While we watched the news last night, I hand-stitched the rest of the embroidery and sewed on the buttons. It seemed as if it took forever, but it was finished by day's end.
Here are the two blocks I have for this quilt so far. When it's finished, there will be nine blocks.
We have grocery shopping to do today, and I believe I have one short chore on my housekeeping to-do list. After that, I'll get back to my sewing.
Yes, that'll be me. A few days ago, even the green would have been fitting.
Next up on my WIP's list will be to make four more blocks for the Scrappy Plus quilt.
Since making the last four, I think I've undergone an attitude adjustment on this project. Each block takes quite some time to lay out and sew together. All the pieces are cut, but getting the values placed correctly is challenging. Today, I'll breathe deeply and utter some ohmmmmm's to stay calm.
Okay, and maybe I'll start right now. Grocery shopping, you know. So keep calm and sew on, my friends. The day is young, even if we aren't.

The worst job I ever had was as a forensicologist for the United Nations. One time I thought I'd come across the mass grave of a thousand snowmen, but it turns out it was just a field of carrots. ~ Milton Jones
Your snowmen are gorgeous blocks. You do such beautiful work! love that quote....a field of carrots! Thanks for the laugh on a stressful day. Been dealing with family in NC trying to get out. They are now safely on their way home. So blessed! Thanks Barbara
Your quote today is too funny! Thanks -
I love your Santa and snowmen quilt. Your pieces are something I always look forward to seeing. And your recipes always look so good. Thanks for sharing.
Love what you do and what you write about. Where do I get the embroidery you are/were working on--the round one with monthly patterns. It isn't very big. Thanks
The frog made me laugh right out loud. I need a whole lot of that in my life right now b'cause we're packing to go away AND the powers that be in our building have decided that we all need to have our units sprayed for cockroaches (I know...yewwww). We've never seen one in our unit but they are in the building. So....we've had to move every.single.thing out of every.single.cupboard (now piled in the middle of the living room floor) AND they're coming today to move all the furniture two feet out from the walls prepping for the spraying to happen on Monday. In the meantime RC and I expect we'll be making like monkeys swinging through the trees trying to navigate around the apartment. There's no stress in our lives!!
(btw - I expect I'll be MIA for comments for a couple weeks so don't be concerned. I'll still be reading but comments will be lacking...not that you'll miss my drivel anyway!).
I think your snowman quilt is so cute! I love the other blocks but I don't think I'd want to make them. I'm enjoying yours.
There's a lot of detail on those snowman blocks, but they are cute! Hope the Scrappy Plus worked well today!
The snowmen blocks are looking good, lots of details. Fingers crossed the assembly on the Plus blocks went well. Complicated blocks make such cool quilts, but they are a challenge sometimes.
