Good morning, my friends. Well, I'm pretty happy to say we made the right decision to leave Kansas when we did. So long, Kansas. Thanks for the memories. But, yeah. Your weather was sucking bad. We had a couple of nice days at Wilson Lake, but that wind was enough to blow us into Oz, which was not on our itinerary. It was windy when we arrived at this RV park in Limon, but the wind died down after an hour or so, and we had a peaceful night's sleep. Ahhhhhhhh.
So let's talk about yesterday's journey, shall we? This was our view for much of the day. We headed due west over this flat landscape. It was a dark gray day with intermittent rain.
As we passed by the exit for Park, Kansas, I could see this church steeple off in the distance. This turns out to be Sacred Heart Church. If you'd like to see more pictures of it, then click right here. It has some beautiful stained glass windows.
At least three of you have congratulated us on our correct decision to head west. My friend, Linda, messaged me with this radar image of storms in the area we came from. We came from the area circled in yellow on the right side of the image. That is Salina, Kansas. Just now, Mike read that they had hail large enough to break windows. Yikes! And we were headed to where the yellow dot is on the left side of the image.
After we were set up, Mike wanted to make some adjustments to one of our slides. He was very proud of this jack set up he figured out. He had to raise the slide just slightly, and so he used two jack stands to create a platform for the too-short bottle jack. I don't know about you, but this reminds me of one of those Darwin Award photos I've seen. Admittedly, it was very stable, and he was able to accomplish what he set out to do.
And here we sit. Mike studied up a little more on the slide situation during some awake hours last night, and he wants to make a few more adjustments to the slide this morning. After that, we'll be moving on to Cheyenne Mountain State Park just outside Colorado Springs. There are some interesting things in Colorado Springs as well, and so we might spend a little time there. We have two nights at the state park before heading north to Centennial, Colorado, where I'm going to meet up with a friend from high school. It has been over fifty years since we've seen one another, and we've been trying to make this meet-up occur for at least five years. We're both excited to give one another a great big hug.
Okay...the man of the house wants to get on with his morning, and he's requesting breakfast. I guess it's the least I can do. Til later my friends. Fingers crossed for better weather from here on.

Glad you escaped that awful weather and are safe. Now that you're in CO Spgs, let me tell you that there's a delicious Dutch bakery on the outskirts somewhere. We went to it a few times on visits to the Garden of the Gods, so it must be closeby. Enjoy your reunion with your friend!
The choice to keep on going was obviously a good one. My cousins in the Belleville and Concordia areas have both mentioned horrible storms in the last 2 days.
Your husband is very clever with maintaining your rig. Guess that's why we are not likely to ever do an RV trip. My husband has no interest or skills for that. His 2 brothers can fix anything, so they must have gotten all of those genes. LOL
You've been fortunate to miss the weather in those areas - yikes! We had a good thunderstorm last night, likely some of that weather crossing over us.
Beautiful barns and scenery on your drive, but wow did you make the right choice to move. And weather during transit looked a bit scary with dark skies over some of those barns. Glad you are now in a safer and better weather place. I don't think I have ever been to Centennial, Colorado, but I do love Colorado Springs. Plenty of hiking/walking trails, great restaurants and things to do. With luck, you may even find a quilt shop or two. Enjoy.
Thank you for keeping all of us "back bumper tag-a-longs" safe by moving on along to better weather.
I always so enjoy these trips with you, and am always amazed at how much I learn. Perhaps if my elementary teachers spoke like you write, I would have paid attention better back in the day

the only quilt shop i can think of in the colorado springs area is Equilter. but i don't think they have a brick/mortar store. the great american quilt store was in the denver area but i think they closed also. sorry. i'm no help. so glad you moved on out of kansas and took no chances. i'm enjoying your journey and journaling immensely. patti in florida
Always a good choice to roll on ahead of bad weather. Always. Smart call. Too bad the Air Force chapel is still closed, it was quite the sight to see. A great testimony to the old adage, "Penny wise and pound foolish" though. That, and "things are never going to be as cheap in the future as they are today."
Good engineering on the slide remedy... hopefully, the permanent fix is just around the bend. Loved the barns! Can't wait to see them all in fabric!
So glad you were able to avoid the worst of the storms in Kansas. We have a chance of storms for the rest of the week. Hopefully the rest of your trip is storm and high wind free.
Great barns...... Great mixture.
That map is downright SCARY!!! Good thing you re-routed to get away from what was surely not a good situation.
