Limon, Colorado

Good morning, my friends. Well, I'm pretty happy to say we made the right decision to leave Kansas when we did. So long, Kansas. Thanks for the memories. But, yeah. Your weather was sucking bad. We had a couple of nice days at Wilson Lake, but that wind was enough to blow us into Oz, which was not on our itinerary. It was windy when we arrived at this RV park in Limon, but the wind died down after an hour or so, and we had a peaceful night's sleep. Ahhhhhhhh.

So let's talk about yesterday's journey, shall we? This was our view for much of the day. We headed due west over this flat landscape. It was a dark gray day with intermittent rain.

We could sometimes see rain in the distance, or headed our way.

And we saw plenty of barns. 

Kansas was one of the first areas settled as Americans ventured westward. When I see a structure like this, I wonder about it's origin.

You might notice there isn't even a speck of blue sky in any of those images. 

As we passed by the exit for Park, Kansas, I could see this church steeple off in the distance. This turns out to be Sacred Heart Church. If you'd like to see more pictures of it, then click right here. It has some beautiful stained glass windows.

And this gave us pause. Did this happen in the high winds the night before? It looks like something fairly recent given the condition of the silo. There's no rust to be seen, and so it can't have been like this for very long.

Okay, and when we turned south and saw this, we decided to reroute and continue heading west.

Eventually, we drove through it and past it.

We arrived in Limon just as that big black cloud let loose and dumped some rain on us. Fortunately, it stopped fairly quickly and we could set up in relative dryness.

At least three of you have congratulated us on our correct decision to head west. My friend, Linda, messaged me with this radar image of storms in the area we came from. We came from the area circled in yellow on the right side of the image. That is Salina, Kansas. Just now, Mike read that they had hail large enough to break windows. Yikes! And we were headed to where the yellow dot is on the left side of the image.

After we were set up, Mike wanted to make some adjustments to one of our slides. He was very proud of this jack set up he figured out. He had to raise the slide just slightly, and so he used two jack stands to create a platform for the too-short bottle jack. I don't know about you, but this reminds me of one of those Darwin Award photos I've seen. Admittedly, it was very stable, and he was able to accomplish what he set out to do.

When I got up this morning, I found Sadie staring intently at something outside. She could barely tear herself away for her morning treats. So what was it? Oooooooh! It's a bunny.

Well, she sat for a long time strategizing about how she could bring this critter to its knees. (If bunnies actually had knees, that is.) Eventually, she gave up on her dreams of hasenpfeffer, and stretched out to enjoy the morning sunshine.

And here we sit. Mike studied up a little more on the slide situation during some awake hours last night, and he wants to make a few more adjustments to the slide this morning. After that, we'll be moving on to Cheyenne Mountain State Park just outside Colorado Springs. There are some interesting things in Colorado Springs as well, and so we might spend a little time there. We have two nights at the state park before heading north to Centennial, Colorado, where I'm going to meet up with a friend from high school. It has been over fifty years since we've seen one another, and we've been trying to make this meet-up occur for at least five years. We're both excited to give one another a great big hug.

Okay...the man of the house wants to get on with his morning, and he's requesting breakfast. I guess it's the least I can do. Til later my friends. Fingers crossed for better weather from here on.
