2022: The Year in Review

Happy New Year's Eve, my friends! I'll just bet you've got all kinds of plans for getting into trouble tonight, don't you? 'Fess up. Now's the time. I know what I'll be doing: sleeping, no doubt. The thrill of ringing in the new year faded a couple of decades back, I think. Once you've rung in a new millennium, nothing else lives up to the hype. I suppose it's one of the drawbacks of having been born mid-century.

There was just a little time for sewing yesterday. Mainly, I didn't want to get started on something new when we're packing up to leave for a few days. My goal was to get Stitches from the Heart ready for hand-sewing the binding. Happily, my excellent sewing cat was there to help move things along.

My plan was to quilt it pretty simply. I wanted to follow the outline both inside and outside the heart, but it needed a little something in the middle. I was trying to create a heart in the same shape, but between the seam lines so that it would show up. I used a chalk marker and puzzled this out with a ruler. Smitty held that ruler fast.

When I had drawn it the way I wanted it, I went to work quilting. It only took a few minutes.

Here's how it looks from the back.

And then I sewed on the binding.

Now it's packed in the same bin with the poppy quilt. The poppy quilt will come home with a hanging sleeve if I'm able to get all the stitching done that I'm hoping to. And thus ends my sewing year of 2022.

So, let's just see what was accomplished in a year's worth of quilt-making. There were 24 quilts finished during 2022, which is a win over 2021 by three quilts. That's a pretty good showing given that I was booted out of my sewing room for several months following the Plumbing Catastrophe of April 2022.

January started with 26 projects on my list of WIPs. December will still end with 26 on the list. Two of the small ones should be finished within the first day or two of the new year, so that's at least a little progress. I have quite a few quilt tops ready for sandwiching, and several sets of finished blocks, ready to be sewn into quilt tops. And so I'm pretty happy with my progress for the year. And, honestly, is there a single one of us that won't run out life's clock with a few unfinished projects still on the shelf?

Here comes the parade of finishes for 2022:

After today's post, I'll be taking a few days off from blogging while we head to Cape Disappointment State Park in Ilwaco, Washington. We're expecting a lot of rain, and I'm expecting to finish off at least one small quilt while we're there. The change of scenery is nice, even if the weather isn't.

Today I'll be doing a lot of cooking both for tomorrow's ham dinner New Year's day celebration with the kids and I'm making a few things ahead for our camping trip. Please stay safe on this New Year's Eve. I want to see everyone back here when I return at the end of next week. All the best to all of you in the New Year.

Boy, do I feel like a slacker after seeing all your finishes. I chalk it up to not having 2 feline supervisors to keep me on track. Hope the rains aren't too bad. Enjoy your getaway and Happy New Year.

Wow - you had a great year of stitching! Must be that great helper - send him my way please. Miss my Moe and Bella has become 'velcro' which makes it hard to do much.
