12th Blogiversary Celebration Giveaway!

Hey, dear friends! Happy Blogiversary to me! And to you for being my blogging friends!! It's so good to check in with you this and every morning. Let me just tell you what's going on around here, and then we'll get to the giveaway. Okay?

The biggest accomplishment yesterday was to finish off the sixth of seven rows of blocks on Ella's Flower Garden. I should easily be able to finish off the quilting today.

Here's how it's looking from the back. Can you see the four-petal flowers that form from those Terry Twists? I really enjoy quilting that motif. It looks pretty from the back, and one can cover a lot of ground without cutting thread if one sticks to the path of righteousness...meaning, if one doesn't lose one's way, as I do occasionally.

All of this was accomplished with the assistance of my steadfast helper cat. He really loves the mid-arm machine. It makes for excellent chin scratching. If you don't know this already, just know that kitties have very itchy chins.

We recorded the January 6th hearings yesterday morning to watch later in the afternoon. While we watched, I stitched up the next section of Calendula Patterdrip's Cottage. The stitching is less dense here, and so I moved my hoop to the right to capture just a bit more of the spiderweb.

It was a warm day and time to give the flowers a drink. Unless we've just been very lucky, I think my pinwheels are deterring the squirrels and the deer. For the first time since planting them, I have some actual blooming geraniums. The squirrels were biting them off as fast as the buds could form.

Here's a pink one here.

Same goes for the dahlias. There were lots of flowers when I planted them. Then none. Now some!

We have actual cherry tomatoes coming on. It's about darned time.

I was surprised to see ten flowers on the Red Cardinal clematis. A bunch opened seemingly overnight.

And these funny little Dr. Seuss flowers on the hens and chicks are opening. We were in the middle of a heat dome when their buds formed last year. They shriveled up without ever opening, poor things. As a succulent, they were not happy about such hot weather. It's good to see them back again.

Around front, the whiskey barrel there is empty of anything right now. Last year, I planted Black Eyed Susans here, thinking they would return this year. I haven't seen any sign of them, and so I sprinkled some California poppy seeds there last week. Now they are sprouting. I'm hoping I didn't plant them too late, and that we'll still get flowers this year.

Around the back side of the house, the smallest clematis finally put out a flower. This is another one that got bitten off every time a bud formed. You can see that something has been nibbling at its petals.

I gave it its own pinwheel a couple of days ago. Now maybe we'll get more flowers.

The lavender is in fine form too. I've already snipped a handful or two for drying. It'll be used in next year's lavender tea, used to make the Bees Knees cocktails.

Mike has been hard at work squirrel-proofing the greenhouse. Yesterday, he shoveled a layer of gravel, then covered it with landscaping plastic. That will keep weeds from growing up through it. Then, he laid down a brick border. He was gone when I was taking this picture, picking up some pea gravel to cover the landscaping plastic.

By day's end, he had the whole thing finished. I've already ordered four large flower pots to put on the left side (the sunny side). There, I'll plant dahlias, and be hopeful for flowers next year. Dahlia bulbs have to be dug up each winter where we live to prevent freezing. By putting them in pots, we'll be able to move the pots into the garage in winter, and we won't have to dig them each year.

Inside, the first flower has formed on one of the pickling cucumbers. These are so late. I doubt we're even going to get any cucumbers this year. Still, I continue to be hopeful we'll get at least enough for some refrigerator pickles.

Okay, so thank you for wading through that update. Let's get to the good stuff, shall we?

Sorry…this giveaway is closed.

Today I'm celebrating 12 years of blogging by giving away an 8-fat quarter bundle of this Sunburst Summer Days fabric by AGF Studio for Art Gallery Fabrics. It seemed like something bright and summery was in order.

Consider this my thank you for your readership, your many kind comments and suggestions, and your encouragement over these many years. Here's what you need to do to be a winner.

1. Just leave a comment...any comment will do. If you can't think of anything, then tell me about any travel plans you might have for what remains of summer. Please leave your comment here on the blog. If you are an email follower, simply click on the title of this post to be taken to the actual web page. You can leave your comment there.

2. Since this giveaway is to thank those of you who have followed along over the years, this prize is reserved for followers only...new, old, salty, sweet, bitter, and twisted...just step on up and tell me how you follow. If you want to become a follower, you can find lots of ways to do it there in my left side bar. Also, I will ship internationally, so all residents of Planet Earth are welcome to join in.

3. If you're no reply, be sure to leave an email address. You can't win if I can't contact you.

So good luck, and a big thank you for helping me celebrate the day! I'll leave this giveaway open through Saturday, July 16th and announce the winner sometime on Sunday, July 17th.

Good luck everybody!

Hello Barbara! Ive been following you for about 3 years, I think. Lost you for a while recently when Bloglovin’ went bonkers and had to go get you back again. Because I love your cheerful, snappy Cat blog! I have cats myself and I swear they are little tricksters in disguise! So that giveaway fabric pack looks like the sort of thing I like and I sure hope I win! Keep up the bloggin and the traveling and especially the quilting!! Cheers, Bonnie C. :) I don't follow (there are reasons I don't follow anyone) and I don't need fabric so that is good too. I do want to tell you that if you have not been to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore you may want to consider it in your fall plans...it is fabulous!!!

Been following you for about 4 years, love your posts and of course, the cats. Just lost my last cat a couple months ago, she got old and I had to have her put down. So sad. Keep up the good stuff, and remember to have fun!

Oh, how I enjoyed the tour of your flower gardens this morning! Our Midwest weather was so crappy earlier in the spring that I didn't plant much, so seeing your colors and buds gave me hope for next year! I've been a blog follower of yours on Bloglovin for quite a while (years?) and want to congratulate you for adding such great content to my reading pleasure...happy blogiversary! duchick at gmail dot com

I follow you with Feedly, and have been enjoying the kitties, the quilting, the travel and the recipes for a few years, now. But not 12 years! I have been hoping to get across the country to my California mountain house this summer, but I’ll probably end up just traveling virtually with you. Dot

I've been following you almost the whole time you've been blogging. I love to see and hear about all that goes on at Three Cat Ranch. We are headed to Calif. the end of the month to visit friends and family Then home to see one daughter and daughter-in-law coming to see Disney. We did a Rhine river cruise this month and saw so many sights. Amazing.

Happy Blogiversary!!!
I follow you by email feed and also on Instagram. I have been following a little over a year I think. I found you through Pinterest - It's Raining Cats and Dogs quilt.
Every day I look forward to your daily post. In addition to the quilting stuff, I love hearing about the cats, the garden, the recipes, local wine, and your travels. I have often wondered about the big guy in the background, what does he do while you are working on quilts, aside from greenhouse critter intrusion mitigation?
Thank you so much for sharing, you make so many folks happy and probably a bit envious every day!
Since I just gave away 2 cartons of fabric and still have too much, I don't need to be entered in the prize drawing, but I appreciate your giving it to someone.
THANK YOU!!!

I follow you with Feedly. For the last couple of months I've had to click through to your blog, because not all the pictures show up in Feedly. I wouldn't want to miss a cat picture!

Barbara, since I am trying to downsize my stash, I don’t wish to be added to the give away. I just wanted to wish you a Happy Blogversary and to tell you how much I have enjoyed following all of activities I don’t know how long I have been reading your blog, but I first found you when you were going to Ireland. I think that has been a few years. I enjoy everything you blog about; we have a lot in common. You are a great writer and make everything you write about so interesting, from your darling cats to quilting, to your travels. And your photography is impressive, as well. Thank you for being there for me to read with my morning coffee. Hope you have many more such blogversariesbto come!

Congratulations are definitely in order especially since you blog every day, not once or twice a month like many of us. I really like the backing fabric for Ella's Garden. Picked our first sungold tomato this morning but it will likely be another week or so until we have any more. Celebrate today, will there be cake for two?

Happy Blog-iversary! Hope all that hard work will pay off in keeping those pesky squirrels out of the greenhouse.

Hi. Your so lucky Smitty and Sadie are good travelers, ours were not. We were boaters for years and we had a covered slip for a while. The barn swallows would land on the bow rails and make a huge mess so we bought a roll of plastic pennant streamers to wrap around the bow rails. Took care of the birds. Maybe they would help around your green house which is pretty cool by the way.

Your blog was a suggested blog for me on Bloglovin and every time it popped up I clicked on it and read all of the posts I had missed. I finally got smart and became a follower on Bloglovin. I like that you post every day because I would miss your flowers and Smitty if you didn't (and your quilting and your travels). I post every day too and most of the blogs I follow do also.
Happy 12 years of blogging!!!

Congratulations, Barbara, on your 12th Blogging Anniversary!! I follow you by checking your blog post every day as I eat my lunch here in Virginia….I wasn’t sure how long I have been following along, so I did a little stroll through your blog archives, and, based on my reading those randomly selected posts, it looks like I started following along sometime in the first half of 2017…that was actually longer than I would have guessed….I was thinking it was around four years, but looks like it’s somewhere around five. It was fun looking at the older posts, and landing on quilts like Raining Cats & Dogs…. Or the Sundresses quilt, or the Bag Ladies Stitch Along! And there was the trip you and Mike, and the kitties, took around the perimeter of the USA!!
It is great to follow along on your travels, to have access to some great recipes, and to hear about the antics of those two four legged family members, as well as anything else you are kind enough to share….
Again, congratulations, and here is hoping you will continue on for more years to come!!

Your recent posts about cleaning out closets has inspired me to go thru some areas that need some purging so that is what I have been focusing on. I hope you enjoy another 12 years! I’m working on my embroidery blocks quilt but since I decided on EPP hexagons for the sashings it will take me forever to get the top together.

Hi Barbara! Happy blogiversary! I’ve been following you for many years. I have a quick link direct to your page! You always give a wonderful view of life and great recipes and quilt and embroidery inspiration. Thank you! Our travel plan this year will take us to northern Wisconsin next month. A cabin on the lake. I hope to enjoy some slow stitching and bike riding with hubs and our puppy.

Happy Blogiversary! I follow you on Feedly. We've done our travel for the summer - going to my BIL's wedding, then up to Niagara Falls, and back through Charleston WV for a quilt show.
