Up Close and Personal

It was another chilly day...not as windy, but plenty breezy. I got outside for a photo scavenger hunt, but I didn't stay out long. I spent some of the day looking at our route home...which won't be for a several more weeks. I had some thoughts about a little sight-seeing we might do, but struck out on any ideas. Our route home is planned, but it always depends on the weather. We may need to go a different way if there's snow in the forecast along the way. It's really too soon to be thinking or talking about that. I'm keeping in mind our last week will be spent in Death Valley, where we have no internet. If I'm to be making reservations and consulting The Google about anything, it will need to be before we reach Death Valley.

Okay, but let's just talk about yesterday's activities, shall we? I stitched the day's inchy, which included the dreaded cast-on stitch. I stitched it with no problems, but it's still hard for me. You'll be happy to know that no bad words were uttered...only printable ones...which might have been something along the lines of "shoot" or "ouch" or "no!"

I was just happy to get it done and only once having my needle come unthreaded. After that, I braved the great outdoors and went on my photo scavenger hunt.

Okay, and I already had a macro lens on my DSLR camera and a fully-charged battery. Where best to start than with kitty noses.

Or the fuzz inside kitty ears. (Smitty sat patiently while I took these close-ups of his handsome face.)

For starters, I confined myself to the indoors. This is our shower head.

This is the heat register in our bedroom ceiling.

This is the front of our little Vornado space heater...great space heater, I might add. It's very quiet.

This is the embossed design on our napkins. Could be a quilting design, don't you think?

This is condensation on the inside of our big jug of drinking water.

This is a sponge. Mike had a big sponge he used to plug a hole where a hose fitting allows cold air into the RV. He cut it to size and stuffed it in the hole to cut down on drafts.

The end of our roll of paper towels.

Oh, and Sadie wanted to get in on the act too.

This is the control panel on our microwave/convection oven.

This is the kitchen tile backsplash.

Okay, and when I'd run out of things inside, I braved the great outdoors. This is the wheel on our truck. I was trying to capture my reflection, but I couldn't get down low enough without sitting on the ground. If I hadn't been so worried about getting back up, I might have done it. But then...people were around. I couldn't bear the laughter and the pointing.

A leaf on a small tree.

The rim of one of the antique wagon wheels.

The axle on the same wheel.

Cholla cactus thorns.

Another bolt...I forget where this was.

Agave blades.

I think this is my favorite of the bunch. It's a fence pole with chain link fencing.

The chain on a fire hydrant.

Tarred-over cracks in the asphalt.

Thorns on a barrel cactus.

By now, I was ready to go back inside. But first, the tail light on the RV.

I was standing under the hummingbird feeder, so what the heck?

The chain and gear assembly on Mike's bicycle.

And by then, I was well-frozen, so I headed back inside. Not much else happened aside from my route planning and photo editing. It was a pretty quiet day.

I've already stitched this morning's inchy...blissfully simple after having the cast-on stitch yesterday.

Here are the first five for February.

We'll be leaving Boulder City on Monday, so we're winding down this weekend. My sewing machine is still out, and so I might start sewing together the Dancing Chickens and Flying Pigs. Mike and I haven't really talked about what we might do today. It seems less windy and the sun is shining. Possibly the weather is warming up. You'll find us in Pahrump next week...just a little over an hour north...and the forecast is better for next week's weather. We could use a little warmth to go with our sunshine.

My favorite is the chain link fence, too! I love how the shadow is similar, but different, sharper. Dot

Those are GREAT close-ups! Kitty noses and ears are especially cute!! I've been to every state in the union and many times to CA but had never ventured to Death Valley. My friend and I went a couple of years ago and it was a neat place. One visit is enough but so glad we went and stayed for a few days.

Great close-up pictures. I have seen games/contests where close-ups like those are shown and you have to guess what they are.

I like your inchies.

It was a balmy 35-degrees this afternoon and sunny, so we got out for a walk. We actually saw a rainbow in a cloud. We've never seen that before.

I love your imagination in seeing the beauty in the closeup photography you've done. Best of all is Smitty's wonderful sweet pink nose.
Hmmm - you're leaving where it's cold and heading north? I think the temptation would be strong to head south!
