This morning's post is a little late. We were slow out of the gate this morning, and then we wanted to get our grocery shopping done. So, it's nearly lunch time...actually, past lunch time...and I'm only just now getting started. Backing up to yesterday, I had time to stitch the day's inchy before we needed to get on our way.
As we drove out of town, I noticed again how interesting the landscape is in this area of southern Nevada. There isn't much growing here, but the mountains make up for it with their interesting shapes and many colors.
Heading north, we got into some of the more red rock areas. There is a state park here, and we visited a couple of years ago when Erik and Mae met us here. We'll probably do some hiking there this trip...maybe on Thursday.
Nevada has good roads...no doubt from the donations people make at the local casinos. The roads are good, and they have the most fabulous street art. Here's a bucking horse.
And a long-horn sheep. This kind of stuff is visible on many of the main drags through Las Vegas and south toward Boulder City. One wall has some amazing scenes depicting the building of Hoover Dam. I was never able to get a good picture of it since it was in shadow whenever we were out.
As we left the metropolitan area, I noticed the snow-capped mountain we'd seen looming over Las Vegas. Looking at the map, we've learned this is Charleston Peak.
This morning, I watched as the sun peeked over the mountains to the rear of us. We're oriented almost exactly as we were in Boulder City, and the sun blasts through the back window of the RV as it rises.
It seemed advisable to do some slow stitching before heading out to the grocery store. Today's wasn't difficult, but it did take quite a bit of time to stitch it.
Okay, so today will be a day for some relaxation. We've noticed the pandemic appears to be over here in Pahrump. In Boulder City, less than 100 miles south, most everybody was masked up everywhere we went. Here in Pahrump, we look like oddballs with our masks. When I checked into the office at the RV park, there were approximately 9 people inside the building. I was the only one wearing a mask.
Tomorrow a crew is coming to wash and wax our RV. They did it last year, and did such a nice job that Mike arranged to have them do it again while we're here. That means it will probably be a sewing day for me. I brought along three small wall-hangings to quilt on the road. With St. Patrick's Day approaching, I figure I'll start with this little "Irish Blessing."
Okay...so it's lunch time for me. I hope things are going well in your world today.

Wow! Barbara, amazing scenery and great that you get time to stitch and sew, too.
Such stark scenery. I don’t think I would enjoy living in the desert. I’ve been to that area, and I missed seeing anything green. Guess I’m a die hard prairie girl.
Lovely views, glad you've arrived safe. I read this post about 08.30hrs Wednesday morning... Interesting time lapse
Love yesterday's 'beach hut' birdhouse
Good to see you settled in and ready for some adventuring. Beautiful sunrise photo, and your stitching is lovely as usual!
I just did our grocery shopping too - from the comfort of my computer chair. Oh the joys of online grocery shopping!
Some beautiful scenery in your photos but I do miss seeing more green. I guess the desert has a beauty all its own.
