New Day, New Place

It was a beautiful sunrise this morning. If there weren't already many good reasons to have cats, then having them around to make sure I always see the sunrise in the morning is reason enough. If it weren't for them, I might have missed this beauty this morning:

Their work is done. Time to rest.

Our friends left for home yesterday. We will move along today. Mike and our friend, Rick, sat at the table talking about "Man and his RV" stuff.

The weather here has been lovely all week, if a little chilly. It seems warmer air is moving in, and it was a blustery day yesterday. Remember that picture I showed you early on?

I recall thinking it was strange for the trees to still be adorned with all their dead leaves. Leaves fell from the trees in Oregon months ago. Yesterday, with the wind blowing hard all day, they began to give up the ghost. It was impressive standing here. I made a little video that doesn't do it justice. The ground at our feet had been mostly clear. Within a few hours, our campsite was covered in a carpet of leaves. This was the view at my feet.

Most of my time for the last few days as been spent slow-stitching. I filled my hoop once, and I'm very close to filling it again. I think this one is going to be pretty when it's finished.

Today, we're heading south to Escondido, California, for the next two weeks. We've been trying out different RV parks for this SoCal stay. Last year's location was unacceptable on many levels. We're hoping we'll like this new place better. And there's always the possibility we might decide our previous place in Hemet was the best place for this leg of the journey. It's worth checking out new possibilities, however. We really like the pools at the park in Hemet, but we don't like the noise with busy streets on three sides. On one side, there's a fire station, and so you can add to all the regular traffic noise, the sound of sirens at all hours. We also like coming a little farther south because it puts us in closer proximity to our friends. So, fingers crossed. Maybe this next location will be "The Place."

Being so close to our friends, our social calendar is already filling up. We have a lunch get-together planned for Tuesday. On Wednesday, I'm going with my friend Debi to see a couple of quilt shops. At one shop, she's a part owner, and I've been dying to see her shop. We always enjoy visiting the Oceanside Pier when we're in this neck of the woods. We've talked about some other things too. Possibly, we'll head over to the Wild Animal Park affiliated with the San Diego Zoo. (I'm told it has changed it's name to the "Safari Park" now.) It's been a number of years since we've visited, and so it sounds like something fresh and new. Also, we've talked about heading over to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Neither of us has visited in several decades, and so it sounds like a good time to check in there too. 

So, there's plenty to keep us busy over the next couple of weeks. I'm planning to have at least a couple of sewing days while we're there too. We're only driving about 40 miles today, and so there's no rush taking off from here until later. We'll have a leisurely breakfast, and then get on our way around noon.
