In a Bind

No jury duty for me this morning. So far, my month-long commitment of jury duty is going swimmingly. I haven't had to report even once. Probably by even saying that, I've jinxed myself, but I'm saying it anyway. It was cool and cloudy yesterday with a few rain showers thrown in, and that made it a good day for slow stitching. As anyone can tell you, slow stitching is best done with a cat on one's lap.

My first stop on the slow-stitching train was to finish off this section of the Heartland Barns block.

I'm getting close to finishing it, and most of the leaves have been stitched. The leaves aren't hard to stitch, but they make my thumb hurt...which makes them hard, I guess. For you though...no problem.

And then I finished off the Liberty Sampler. I had so much fun with the embroidery on this piece. I love the variety of stitches she used.

There was still one more quilt binding I was hoping to finish, but I switched to the farm quilt. Now the goat and the ducks are top-stitched/quilted.

Today I'll do the cow, and I might get started on the sunflowers to the left of the cow. After that, there is just one section left. I'll still need to top-stitch the appliqued border and then add in some more quilting where there are open sections in the landscape. It's moving along though, and I'm happy to be this close to finishing it. It's my current oldest UFO, and it has felt like a ball and chain.

When the quilting was finished, I returned to the slow-stitching and finished off the "In the Good Old Summertime" table runner.

This was June's goal for

so I'll link up at the end of the month when the party starts.

Here's how it looks from the back:

And then it took its place of honor on our dining room table.

The Liberty Sampler was hung on the narrow wall above our breakfast bar, and I brought back the table topper finished last year. That completes my Fourth of July trio of quilts.

Okay, so aside from quilting, I'll probably make up a grocery shopping list and do some laundry today. There should be some time for sewing this afternoon. Next up, I'll be making the next row of blocks for the City Bank quilt. Here's where I left it last time I worked on it:

The blocks for this quilt go together pretty fast. I'm running out of appropriate blues and greens, and so I'm probably going to start adding in more purples.

That's about all I have for you today. As much as I love the sunshine, a good day of cloud cover does wonders for one's sewing to-do list. We're expecting much the same weather today, and so I'm hoping to get a lot more accomplished. What's on your to-do list right now?

I love the assortment of creatures on that quilt. Curious about something though - did you get all the different fabrics with the pattern or did they come from your stash? Either way, they look perfect.

We have been in the mid-90s for a few days running now, and we're all starting to wilt. I'd like to say I've been sewing up a storm, but nope. I have gotten some things done, but none that I can show. Your patriotic quilts are looking great, and I love the colors in your City Lights blocks!
