Rain Chair Games

If Rudolph had a broken shoulder, I’d be nice and let him join in my Rain Chair Games. It rained almost nonstop yesterday. I sat in a chair almost nonstop, although we did venture out for a bit. We needed to pick up a prescription, and we got a few grocery items. It was after noon by the time we got ourselves out the door. When we got home, I did some slow-stitching. It’s the best I’ve done with my slow-stitching endeavors. I didn’t do quite as much as I might have if I had full use of my arm, but my thumb tolerated this well.

The thumb looks better every day. It’s still bruised and “thick.” The thickness is keeping it from being very flexible. There’s also some bruising in the palm of my hand, but it isn’t sore.

The stitching didn’t bother the thumb while I was doing it, but I decided to put it back in the splint and give it a rest when I was finished.

Our mission in going to the grocery store was to pick up a few more of the Home Chef meals. These are turning out to be a godsend for Mike. They give good instructions, and he’s able to make something pretty darned tasty. Last night’s selection was this:

He liked that the meat was already sliced nice and thin, and all the seasonings were measured out. He just had to slice the green onion, tomato, and the mushrooms. Also, it’s a good amount for two people. Plenty of food, and no leftovers.

We took a peek at the badge on my coat last night. When Mike put the glue on it, he didn’t spread it all the way to the edge, fearing it would ooze out around the edges. So it’s nicely stuck down, and I should be able to stitch it easily once I get some strength and stamina back in my thumb.

And it’s business as usual this morning. Sadie is taking the first shift as medicinal cat this morning.

For now, there’s nothing on the agenda. I’ll try to get some more slow stitching done, and I’ll watch some more television. Each day is a little easier, but there’s still a long way to go.

We canceled the first part of our trip south yesterday. We’d originally planned to leave on January 2nd, but that seems unrealistic at this point. I won’t see the orthopedist again until the 24th, and there’s still a possibility I’ll need a surgery. Also, one of our first stops was to be Death Valley National Park, but the campgrounds there are closed, in keeping with the statewide stay-at-home orders in California. We’re told other RV parks are open, but we’ve still decided to cancel and collect refunds, rather than wait and possibly lose our deposits. Now, we’re planning to leave later in the month, but keeping our minds open to the possibility we’ll need to change our plans again.

Some of you have posted about the snow back east, and so I’ll just close by renewing my wish for you all to stay warm and dry, and keep the power on.

Glad you're making progress each day, but sorry the trip south is postponed. We are not going south at all this year as our destinations of Texas and Florida are filled with Covid deniers and we don't want to risk it. We wound up with about 3' of snow, but we were on the western edge of the storm and didn't really expect too much. It's pretty cold though.

My goodness, Sadie looks exhausted from her duties. Such a devoted friend. Your poor thumb certainly looks painful, no matter what you say!

I was wondering about your trip south, more so about the Covid closure than injury. We had close to 3 foot of snow and help is on the way tomorrow to get us cleared out. It made for a good sewing day.

Glad you're feeling better. Thanks for telling about the Home Chef meals. I discovered that I might be able to get them at Harris Teeter. Not one of my regular stores but close by. I look forward to trying them.

Glad you are improving day by day.

I wondered if this would change things up for your trip, but glad that adjusting is fairly easy to do. That meal looks really good - I'll have to see if we have them around here.

Glad it looks like you are feeling better. If I couldn’t stitch at all...... let’s not even imagine. Whenever I’ve injured my hand, I would wear the splint just to remind myself to be careful with the hand. Glad you have such devoted medical help to encourage rest and healing. Get well soon and here’s hoping your Christmas present will be no surgery.

Time for a few Christmas movies, glad to know the healing is progressing. Take your time. I know what it is like to be stuck without being able to sew, and tired of everything on TV.

I agree with your quote. It took quite a while for me to discover that patience has many levels. You also discover you can tolerate more pain than you think. After a while the underlying pain isn’t as noticeable. When you are fully healed you do feel the difference and treasure the life you live a bit more like a miracle. Keep the mind occupied and heal well.

We've been binge watching entirely too many Christmas movies on'W' - romantic fluff and feathers stuff but nice for a little escapism. Last night we watched 'Polar Express' - the first time we've seen it. Your thumb is looking much better and I'm so glad to hear that you're getting more range of motion with both it and your shoulder.

The thumb still looks pretty nasty, but at least you are getting more mobility with it. Using it probably helps as it increases the blood flow, which should help reduce the swelling. So sorry you had to cancel the first part of your trip. Though with the COVID numbers, we haven't been keen to do much of anything during our time off. Fingers crossed you won't have to have surgery.
