Improved Mood

It was a big disappointment to have to wait an additional three days to see an orthopedic specialist, and I hit a wall mood-wise yesterday. It reinforced the knowledge that it will take a long time to recover from my injuries and return to the things I love doing. Towards the end of the day, I made a little more peace with my situation and decided it was time to find other things to do. Today I will start making a list of programs I’ve wanted to watch on television. Mike and I don’t always agree on genres, and so there are several series that I’ve wanted to watch but haven’t in deference to his preferences. I am a fan of true crime documentaries… Mike, not so much.

There were a few day brighteners yesterday. I saw these earrings on Facebook a while back, and I really wanted them, but I couldn’t see the expense for something I would only wear at Christmas. Mike caught that, and ordered a pair for me. Cute, huh?

Also, I ripped a small hole in my heavy winter coat when I fell the other day. My camera was in my pocket. I’m just glad I didn’t smash the camera. The good news is that the hole is right on a pocket.I can easily cover it with this yin and yang cat patch. My friend Anette kindly offered to hand stitched it for me. Thank you, Annette. Fortunately, it is an iron-on patch, and I will hand stitch it when I am able to. It might be the first thing I hand stitch when my thumb heals.

Also yesterday, a neighbour surprised us with a delivery of pizza. That was very kind and thoughtful of her.

Today we are picking up more pain medication, and my new custom orthotics are ready for pick up. Not that I am doing much walking around, you understand. Still, I would rather pick them up today than wait until after I see the orthopedic specialist. I suspect he will manipulate my arm, and make it hurt.

Aside from that, I will endeavor to improve my mood today. Just FYI, grey cat is on shift right now.

The medicinal cats are taking their new responsibilities very seriously.

Your new earrings are really fun! You’ll have to model them for us and post a picture! I’m really sorry about your injury. How did the bike fare? I’m glad the kitties take their duties seriously.

Very cute "blingey" earrings--a real mood lifter I think;))
Hang in there kiddo--you are in my thoughts-- and prayers, too.

Tom was sent to be Covid tested this morning...the Z-pack did nothing for his chest congestion or cough...he has had it for 9 days now....
So we are in quarantine until we hear (at least)--it should be in 5-7 days. Not that we really go ANYWHERE these days... S I G H
Glad I did a HUGE food shopping last week...

If it's negative he'll need a chest x-ray--so what do you hope for? Right?
Anyway, misery loves company, ;)))

I made more Geese this morning and am now trying to figure out how to set them...
I am glad to hear you are trying to come to terms with this--good for you..
Hope the pain is diminishing for you (no hugs --ouch) Julierose

I've just been catching up with my blog reading so I'm late sending you virtual hugs and wishing you a speedy recovery. The good news of bulk reading posts is that I know that your mood is better which makes me feel happier for you. Those earrings are a perfect pick you up and I love the kitty yin and yang patch. It will look great on your coat. True crime is one of my favourite genres but one I watch with my daughter as John isn't a fan. Enjoy catching up on your viewing. I'll be catching up over the Christmas break.

Another true-crime fan here. Netflix has all of the Forensics Files shows, or at least they did as of a couple of weeks ago. Great for binge watching. Some of their documentaries aren't bad, although they're usually kind of slow and repetitive. Par for the course these days. I hope you mend quickly. (No reply necessary.)

So glad your humorous side was not injured! You can do this and life will return. So glad the cats are there to help.

Good to hear your sweet kitties are taking their job seriously and doing what they can to make you rest and help speed your recovery. Mike is so thoughtful to buy those adorable Kitty Christmas earrings for you. They are purrfectly you! Let's not lose sight, YOU WILL RECOVER. You will get back to walking, cooking, stitching, quilting, traveling and doing everything you enjoy. But you need to let your body rest and heal, as well as follow what your doctor advises. In the meantime, I like your idea of watching real crime stories. We've got into "Ray Donovan", which while isn't real crime, it is an interesting series to stream if you like crime stories.

Love your new earrings. When my dislocated shoulder occurred from falling on icy parking lot in freezing rain, the kindness of strangers was quite amazing. One kind man put his picnic blanket under my head, a Lady called for ambulance, a crowd stayed with me till I was taken to hospital. Had to miss my Christmas party for which I had made an apple pie. Before anaesthetic I phoned neighbour to tell her to take the pie from my kitchen to the party. Coming round from anaesthetic I heard doctor advising my son to keep a close watch on me that night as I had been rambling crazily about a pie and a party. Memories eh?
There ensued months of physiotherapy. Thank God for OHIP. Stay strong, stay healthy, stay cheerful. D.

Even though I don't wear earrings I think those are so cute. I really like the yin and yang cat patch.

I hope the pain medication is helping, and when you do finally see the orthopedist you can really start on your journey to healing your shoulder and thumb.

The earrings are adorable! I believe holiday jewelry should be worn for the two weeks leading up to Christmas so you get to enjoy it longer. Think about it! You be the most fashionable at the doctor's office.

What totally adorable earrings! You have a wonderful husband-mine is the worst gift picker outer in the world. I've learned to live with it and buy my own gifts. Maybe once you get the pain under some kind of control, you will be able to work on some jig saw puzzles on your trip. Unless of course they drive you crazy. Still sending prayers.

Hello, Barbara, I've not been much in blogland lately and I only just saw your last few posts. I'm very sorry to hear about your injuries. I do hope they will heal soon and that in the meantime you can relax and find some enjoyable ways of spending your time. I'm glad you've got all your cats to take care of you. Those earrings are great and the cat patch will be a great fix for coat. Take care, Janine :)

The arrival of those earrings couldn't have been better timed. Mike is a keeper, and so are the earrings!

Oh, man, Barbara! I'm so sorry about your accident and all those fractures. That's just awful that you've had to wait so long to see the specialist. Looks like the kitties are doing their job very nicely.

The cat earrings are wonderful. We have reached the age when we can wear whatever we want, whenever we want, so I say wear the earrings all year. Besides December, wear them in July for Christmas in July.
If you don't subscribe to The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, I would suggest it. There are hundreds of shows with well-known quilters on every topic you can imagine. I think they are still running their special 6 months for $19.95. Each show is about an hour long.
Good luck with the ortho doc tomorrow.

What fun earrings - and how thoughtful of Mike to get them for you. He's a keeper! I like true crime shows too - and anything about forensics. I think, if I had my life to do over, I would work in the forensics field. I'm glad you're at least able to watch some shows - hopefully you can find some good quilting ones and binge watch them all! Glad to know the kitties are being responsible citizens....nothing's better than that sound of purring!
Will be thinking about you tomorrow.

How frustrating to have to wait so long to see the specialist, 'groan'. Watching a lot of Netflix and chill is a worthy solution. I can recommend Murder on Middle Beach on HBO as a great true crime docu series that will keep you wondering. My husband does not enjoy such things but I like them and so take the opportunity when I have my down days to catch up. Stay warm and cuddle up with the fur babies the best cure of all.

It's good for us to treat ourselves to some fun and the ear rings are cute. You have two wonderful medicine pets.

Glad that Mike treated with something fun. It is a long recovery, I wasn't quilting when I broke my collar bone, I had some counted cross stitch projects going. Those I was able to work on a bit once it had healed it little. Hopefully once you get everything set and restricted, you'll be able to embroider a bit.
