End of the Lines

It took all day long yesterday, but the quilting on Snow Globes is complete. It's going to be a busy day today, but I'm going to endeavor to budget my time so that I can get the binding sewn on by machine. That always ends up taking longer than expected, so no promises.

Of course, I could not have accomplished this without the steadfast assistance of my quilting buddy. He was there to the bitter end, encouraging me every step of the way.

He offered his helping paws even when I didn't know I needed them.

He asked me to point out how his white paws match perfectly the white fabric of the quilt...pure as the driven snow. He wouldn't think of putting a muddy paw on a quilt.

Around 4:30 p.m., it was all finished. It took it downstairs and made sure I'd stitched every cross-hatched line.

If you look at this, you can see that some of the lines could be stitched from edge to edge. On the other hand, there were these buggers between the embroidered blocks where the shorter lines (approximately 5 inches in length) had to be stitched one at a time, cutting threads, and burying the ends every single time. I hope that makes sense when you look at the example I've circled below. I suppose I could have retraced my path over the line at the edge of the embroidered block, but I didn't really want to do that. It took forever finishing all of those.

When I could look at the whole thing, I was happy with how it turned out. It's very pretty on the back too.

So, my binding strips are cut. I'll need to sew them together and square up the quilt, and then I'm hoping to have time to do the machine sewing today.

As I mentioned yesterday, we're having the family over for a dinner of roast beast tonight. Mike is going to do the roast beast on his Traeger grill, and so I'll be doing the side dishes of mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. I'm also making a spinach salad that is a family favorite. None of that will take very much of my time, but I'm also making a lemon meringue pie. That is a bit more time-consuming, but oh so gratifying when I see those beautiful mounds of meringue at the finish. And who doesn't love lemon meringue pie? So, anyway...lots to do today.

Now, I need to check in with a little Blogger housekeeping.

There was an issue with Blogger a few years back when it stopped notifying me of comments that came in. It seems the issue has cropped up again for some reason. It used to only happen with Yahoo email users, but now I've noticed it's happening with quite a few of you, and you're using different email programs. So...all of that to say that I have no explanation for this. However, I do believe I have a solution, which I mentioned at the end of this blog post from 2018. Back then, I started leaving myself a comment at the end of each post, and checking the box to have follow-up comments sent to me. So, I'm going to do that again. It's a bit of a hassle, but it also encourages me to say something clever, witty, or helpful. (Opinions expressed here do not reflect the opinions of the blogger...even if I am the actual blogger.)

Okay, so my housekeeping is done on the blog and in the house. Time to bake a pie. Pictures to follow, of course.

Don't forget to vote...vote as if your life depends on it.

Here’s a little test comment. We’re hanging out at Clarkco State Park with the intention of avoiding the hurricane. The hurricane decided to find us anyway with 5” of rain last night and the only county in Mississippi with a tornado warning. Hope your roast beast turns out delicious. We have some ribeye snakes marinating but they may end up on the stove if this wind keeps up. Lemon meringue pie sounds good right about now.

Nicely written about your cat. He seems to really enjoy your company and he is adorable.

Voting on November 3 at the fire hall, just like always. This quilt is so delicate and pretty, I hope you have a spot ready to hang it for the holidays. Good idea on the commenting issue.

We hand delivered our absentee ballots to the clerk last week. Your quilting is gorgeous, as always. Your pie looks fantastic (I peeked on Instagram) and is definitely one of my favorites. Enjoy your family time!

Your snow globes quilt is so pretty and I love the quilting you did. I saw one of your quilts you gifted on Amity quilter; what a gift. Smitty is such a good companion and so handsome. We live in a rural area so will be voting in person.

Congratulations on finishing the quilting on this lovely piece. AND good job Smitty! Mom wants to vote in person, so that is what we will be doing. I've noticed the comment problem as well. Even my reading list changes, sometimes folks are there and then sometimes not. I find if I wait until the end of the 'days' cycle, the full list shows up.

Boy, that sure turned out pretty. That cross quilting must've taken forever, but it sure looks nice. Smitty does a great job of helping, but I'm especially impressed with his clean tootsies. I know how your pie turned out; my mouth is still watering.

Kudos to you because I wound have absolutely traveled in the ditch to do all those short lines. I'm a slow quilter as it is, doing your method would probably do me in.😄 It looks great!

Smitty is definitely a hunk of hunikiness. Snow globes look great. We had an AQI of 10 yesterday morning. The fires are still going but the wind is our friend for 24 hours. We are supposed to have more "Spare the Air" days through Tuesday. I think that will make 53 days this year where the air quality deteriorated. Yesterday was our ASG BargsinGarden an annual event where tons of fabric, notions and patterns are available for a donation. Needless to say, it is many days of hard work with sorting fabrics into categories and folding. We social distanced the event letting few in at a time, temperature checks and mandatory masks. There were no problems with adherence to the rules. We were greatly appreciative of the crowd as must of our workers are in the older citizen category. I found out my mask caused my nose to hurt by the end of the day. I must have had the elastic cinched up too tight. There was definitely no air coming in around the edges so that may be true. A small price to pay for a good seal. Today is catch up day.

I too am having problems all of a sudden with comments...they are not appearing in my email. That is to say, some are appearing and some are not. I feel I could fix it if I could figure out the randomness.

Here is my test .

I've had the problem of some comments not appearing in my email for a long time (long before the latest update at Blog-grrr) and subsequently went to replying to comments directly on my blog. Makes it much easier.
I smiled when I read 'roast beast' because that's what we call it too.
Your quilt looks wonderful!

Congrats on finishing up the quilting, it's beautifully done. I keep checking to see if my comments are all showing up in email. So far so good.
