Paintbox Pizzazz Panache

Paintbox Pizzazz is officially ready for quilting. Who knows when that will happen? It won't be any time soon. Nevertheless, it feels good to have it this far. This was one of two projects I started for the 2019 Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

You can't say it isn't bright enough. Here's a close-up of the two borders. I used a narrow black stop border before adding the paintbox fabric. I love that paintbox fabric. I used almost all of the one yard I purchased. Kind of wish there was more.

I laid the binding fabric along the edge so you can see how that will look. You can see it at the bottom of the image below.

Smitty thought this looked like a Twister game board, and decided to play the game himself. He's often in competition with his tail, and his tail is the one responsible for this mess.

It's one of the drawbacks of being a cat with a long tail. Sadie isn't troubled by this. (Old picture. Kitties are confined to the indoors now.)

Speaking of kitties, I reached this point in my hand quilting yesterday. The cat was already quilted. I was just quilting in the border. But it's a cat, and so I had to take a picture. Possibly there is a cure for this cat obsession of mine, and I hope I never catch it. The cure, that is.

I was just getting ready to move my hoop, and you can see that I'm getting close to the corner and the end of my obligation for this go-round. It hasn't been too bad working on this since giving it a good long time out. I'm even ending up doing a little more than I promised when I picked it up again.

There are some blocks near the corner that are not yet quilted, and so I'll work on whatever fits in the hoop until I reach the corner. After that, I'll put it aside again for a while.

The rain we expected yesterday never really materialized beyond spitting a few times. That means I need to get outside and do some work in the garden today, and I need to do some watering. There is one hated housekeeping chore on this morning's calendar, and I need to make up a grocery list. It's kind of a busy day even without any sewing. Still, I'm hoping to make it into the sewing room at some point. If I get there, I'm going to make masks for Erik and Mae using these fabrics. I'm afraid football season is going to be a bust this year, but I imagine they'll use these masks anyway. One doesn't need to be at a football game to show one's school colors.

Those shouldn't take long, and then I'll be starting a new kitty pawtrait. This wasn't on my list, but Matthew has a friend named Gina who has a cat named Luna. Isn't she a pretty girl? She looks a little like Smitty.

What I know about Luna is that she is 17 years old and nearing the end of her life. Gina is a nurse and gives Luna fluids a couple of times per day because of renal failure. I have a little room on my sewing dance card, and so I'll fit in Luna's pawtrait before getting back to my white board list of projects. Yesterday I traced her picture onto a transparency (the first step), but I'm not happy with what I did. I'm going to start again. It's easy to get bogged down in the details of color, and I need to simplify my plan a little bit. I believe I have a perfect fabric for her pretty eyes.

So here I go. Hand stitching will get the day off to a good start.

Oooh Luna is really a beautiful kitty...
thunder boomers here and many downpours--which is really great as our lawn was quickly turning to hay...
And my first pink lily opened up this morning--hooray!!
I love that cheery paintbox fabric--perfect with the pizza boxes...and the black stop border is just right...

Luna is very pretty and does look a bit like Smitty. But don't let Sadie get blue about her short tail. My Gabby with a short tail can chase and catch hers just fine. But since it was amputated for infection reasons, we remind her it is a no-no - we usually know she is after it because she, a generally quiet kitty, yells at it when she is trying to or has caught it. It's been a year and a half and she still goes after it when bored...good thing we have an automatic laser mouse to distract her... And every time you shoe Mulligan Stew I consider making one. I have the book, but so far have managed to talk myself out of making it. We'll see how this resolve lasts with continued temptation!

Paintbox Pizzazz is right up my alley this year! We all need bright cheerful color and pattern in our lives. Luna is a gorgeous kitty, those eyes! It's always fun to see how you create these pawtraits, one of your specialties!

I think you have settled on a perfect border solution! I like that black stop gap in between. Have to love the look on Smitty's face - you just know he's contemplating catching that tail again. Luna has the most amazing eyes - can't wait to see your pawtrait!

It's always nice to get a bit more done on a quilt than you expect. Thank you for sharing the little cat block (so cute)! Smitty was channeling Wilbur with that tail work, I think! Do you think you could find more of that paintbox fabric for your stash? Luna has gorgeous eyes. Makes me so sad that she is struggling though. Always hard to say goodbye to our kitties.

You do justice to each cat when you make their pawtrait. With Luna's eyes, I’m sure you will create an image that Gina will treasure. It will help her as Luna,s health declines and she must let go of her darling.

Great work you did today. So much was accomplished. I’m sure you will keep us posted on all you do.

I'm sure your pawtrait of Luna will turn out lovely. Thank you for sharing pretty kitty pictures along with the quilts. I love kitties, but now space in our 5th wheel for a litter box at this time. And there are coyotes out here too.

Paintbox Pizazz is full of fun color! The border fabric is perfect for it, too. Cats on quilts always crack me up - they just can't stay away!

Congrats on getting Paintbox RSC quilt together! Luna is gorgeous and I'm looking forward to seeing her "pawtrait." I have a pet portrait on my project list. I've been studiously ignoring it for 9 years!

Your Paintbos Pizzazz is a great RSC project. Was this design your own idea? I'm always amazed at how productive your days are.
