If the hand-sewing part of my day weren't so, um, speedy, I might think I'm not making any progress at all. But there it is...I've filled my hoop again, and now I'm just slightly more than halfway around the first plate for Pieces of the Past. I'm really enjoying this pretty design.
As for the Semper Fi quilt, it's moving along more slowly than I imagined. After half a day's effort yesterday, I'd only added one more side to the border of stars.
One would think that with Sadie helping me cut...
and Smitty helping me sew...
I'd have accomplished more in a whole day. But no. By day's end I'd only added one more side to this border.
To add insult to injury, I counted out the cut squares for the half square triangles yesterday, and realized I still didn't have enough. I'm not sure when I forgot how to count. Somewhere between now and my last birthday, I seem to have run out of fingers to keep track of such things. I've used nearly all of the solid blue fabric, and so I hope I have enough to make up the difference. Fortunately, I saved the information about it, and so I can order more if I need to.
So I'll pick it up there this morning, and I should have this first star border finished by day's end. Today is a CSA pick-up day...the last pick-up for the season...and so my sewing day will be interrupted this afternoon. I'm looking forward to finishing off this round of stars so I can add some brighter borders and lighten up the whole quilt some. It's looking pretty dark just now.
Also looking pretty dark is the morning outside. As I'm writing this at nearly 7:30, it's still dark as night outside. It's good we'll be "falling back" this weekend. Then I'll be able to switch my complaining to the darkness at the end of the day. Variety is the spice of life.

Our clocks went back over the last weekend and it is nice to have more light in the morning but sunset is so early. In a couple of weeks it will be dark when I go to work and when I come home. Roll on Spring. The plate design is very pretty. I must do some more hand stitching but at present I'm still finishing knitting John's jumper. From now on he can have store bought jumpers.
It is rather overcast and brooding here today, so I'm finding it difficult to get motivated. I'm currently happy to sit here and read blogs. Hope you sneak through that blue fabric without having to order more, but at least you know you can if you need to. Looks like your trusty assistants were doing their best to keep up their work detail. I'm looking forward to the time change too.
You are doing well. We can’t be speed machines every day. I, for one, don’t like the time change. Just choose one and stick with it. It is gloomy here today. It must be the smoke from the fires again. At least we have electricity and not in an evacuation area. The people living in the North Bay are on horror side and need to watch which way the wind is blowing.
A friend finally decided to start sewing again after 30 years. I’m hoping eloping her to make two baby blankets. The ruffles are made and sewn on. That has taken several afternoons to accomplish. Now to make the embroidery designs and put on the backs. On to the fronts.
I really like that way your new stitchery is looking! And again, the inspector/helpurrrrs are encouraging you along the way.
I have that counting problem on occasion too. Meh.
