John Day, Oregon

One more day, and we'll be back at the Three Cats Ranch. This will be my last post before Monday. It was rather a long day today...many miles, and cloudy, rainy weather. The drive across Southern Idaho was particularly bland. I didn't take my first picture until we reached the Oregon state line.

There was road construction just as we crossed the border, and we were routed around the usual roadway. I almost missed the sign.

But nothing says Oregon like a Conestoga wagon. We passed by this one shortly after crossing the border.

I might have taken more pictures, but with the rain, most of them ended up looking like this.

There were a few successes, however.

This part of Oregon is isolated, with only a few towns, appearing to have a population of one family.

As we drove closer to John Day, we found a higher density of people, but still few and far between.

After 347 miles today, we reached the town of John Day. There is a nice RV park located at the county fairgrounds here. It's just $30 per night with nice, long, level spaces, and full hook-ups. Not a bad deal at all.

Kitties must have some kind of secret internal GPS because these two couldn't wait to get out on their catio once we got parked and set up.

They're going to be happy campers when we open the door and they find themselves at home.

The weather has turned cold, and I'm aware that many of the places we've traveled on this trip will be seeing the first snowfall of the season within the next day or two. It's fairly cold here in John Day, but we aren't expecting any snow here or back home. We're here for just the night, but John Day is kind of a cute little town with John Day Fossil Beds National Monument nearby. We visited on a different trip, and you can read my post about that right here. The Painted Hills section is particularly scenic and interesting. We'll be staying in and eating leftovers tonight, and I think we're both ready to be home tomorrow.

So I want to end this trip by thanking all of you who followed along and left comments, made suggestions about sights to see, and shared your personal stories about the places we've visited. I've truly enjoyed them, and it's been good to share our trip with you. Thank you, my friends. Until Monday, be well, and I'll be right back here to tell you about our trip home.

When I travel (although seldom for so long as you do), I feel like I could stay forever. Until it is time to go home, and then I can't wait to be there. Safe travels on this last leg of the trip. :)

Yes, fingers crossed for a safe trip home. The furkids look like they are ready to click the ruby slippers - there's no place like home.

Thank you for taking me along. I've really enjoyed the journey and all the exploring along the way. One or two of the shots into canyons made me a little queasy but I survived the experience.

Whew, Molly and I raced over to your house just in time to pick up Buddy who we left out to pasture at your place while you were gone.

We used to have a pup, as soon as we turned off I40 at our exit, she was up and antsy. Didn't matter if we were only gone to the park or for a month, she knew we were home. Not so with Bailey. She stays in her bed no matter what, till I pick up her leash and say let's go! Safe travels!

So, Buddy was left out to pasture at your place while you were gone? Hope he kept the lawn mowed like a good pony, but didn't let his hoofs dig up the yard. Thanks for taking us along on your trip, and we didn't even eat you out of house and travel home!
