Winning Weather

It was bordering on warm yesterday when I went outside to pull some weeds. Oh my gosh...there are so many weeds. I told Mike it was difficult to tell the forest of weeds from the weeds as big as trees. My goal was to pick three bucketfuls and call it a day. I have the whole summer ahead of me, right? No need to kill myself on the first day. Of course, no session of weed pulling can be complete without the assistance of one's cat.

He kept the squirrels and mousies at bay.

When I committed to three bucketfuls, I should have chosen a smaller bucket. I was using this big industrial-sized bucket, and it was a lot of work. You can see the weeds awaiting my attention there. Yikes.

On this first day out, I took a good long break between each bucket, drank some water, walked around, and by the time I had filled my third bucket, the whole area in front of the house on the left side of the sidewalk was relatively weed free. It was a good day's work.

There's still plenty more to do, but I called it quits for the day. My original plan was to do the culinary herb garden, but that part of the yard gets the afternoon sun. It was a little chilly to be out doing it in the shade, and so I opted for the sunny side of the house. The herbs will have to wait for another day.

After that, I showered and ate some lunch, then got out for a walk around. In my wanderings, I noticed this dark purple hyacinth. This is another one courtesy of the squirrels.

Also, I noticed that the cherry blossoms are just starting to open.

The birds and raccoons always beat us to the cherries, but the tree will be gorgeous when it's in full bloom. Most all the trees are budding out right now, and so we should have some pretty blooming trees within the next week.

After that, I finished up the April block for Tuxedo Tales. This entailed top-stitching and some machine and hand embroidery.

Finishing this block was my April OMG, and so I'll link up when the time comes.

Here are the four blocks I've fini...oh...wait...that's a problem.

We had to review the rules of the sewing room. You stay in this little bed.

I know your rules...I purrfur my own.

I will comply, but only because I'm getting very sleepy.

Okay, so let's try this again. Here are the four blocks I have so far.

Today, I'm walking with my friend Sue. We haven't walked since last August, and so we're both looking forward to meeting for our bowl of oatmeal and then taking a walk around the rural countryside. It's going to be a beautiful day, and so I should have some nice pictures from our walk for you in tomorrow's post.

Good job weeding, still to cold and snowy here. I like the expression on the cats in your quilt (what is on my head?).

I LOL'd at Sadie laying on your blocks. Boogie does exactly the same to me, whether sewing or reading. He finds open books especially comfy. So jelly of your pretty weather. Might get up to 60 or so here in York this weekend but not much sun. No point in gardening, it's so depressing. We are missing spring entirely. Only kitties and fabric to comfort me!!

You did quite a lot of weeding. So glad we have a gardener for that...we have allergies and its awful this year with the pollen. But this morning I got out and did a 5K walk/race at Epcot. We had signed up for it months ago. Hope to get some trees made today. Love seeing all that you do and the kitties.

I HATE weeding, but I've noticed that if you get out while the ground is still damp, you're more successful at pulling weeds out by the roots. If you wait til the soil's dry, it's almost impossible to properly weed without breaking the weed off at the soil. My rosemary plant is now a bush. I plan to cut it a make bundles for the guests that are coming to our granddaughter's first birthday party next Saturday. I have to find new parsley, both Italian and curly as the plants from last year have either gone dormant or died. My thyme, lavender, apple tree(OMG - so many blossoms this year) and lemon tree are still thriving. The rhubarb that I planted last year has expanded so I need to find someone to show me how to deal with it. I can't yet take stalks from it for harvesting as you're supposed let the energy go to the root. I don't really understand what that means, but I've noticed that the stalks are turning red from the green they were in the original plant. I didn't anticipate how much space it takes up so it's crowded now.

I want to know where you find so much energy in your day--it seems you are on the "move' every minute--I can't keep up with you!!!
I like to be busy all day too--but more of mine is sitting work--like counted cross stitch or embroidery--I can't believe you did all that weeding and then still took a walk--you are amazing!!!
Is hubby staying busy now that you are home???
enjoy, di

It is nice to get out and enjoy the nice weather, hopefully we will get some this week.
I have a trip next weekend and of course they are talking rain and a drop in temps again, errrr.
Love those blocks, that is a fun pattern and you are doing a beautiful job with your fabric choices.

Glad the weather is nice and you can get outside - the yardwork looks great. Those kitties are so cute - maybe Sadie has a new boyfriend?

A bit of weeding and a bit of stitching, you've got a nice rhythm going there. Love all the blooming things in your yard. I'm hoping my roses come back from the freezes, nothing blooming here yet, so I'm really enjoying checking out your pretties.

Oh! You get to walk with Sue! Now your return home is complete, when you can see a good, good friend and enjoy each other's company. Your home, with or without weeds, looks lovely, Barbara. And Sadie is her own beautiful, independent self. Ha!
