There are some funny exhibits at the fair...by "funny," I mean "peculiar." I'm not really sure what this exhibit was all about, but it was there. Now, I'm showing it to you.
What I liked most about this were the signs with cat wisdom. Our friend Molly (aka Best Cat in the Universe) will like this one:
Molly just moved into a new home, and so she knows the truth of this next one. Now that Molly has arrived, her former "house" has become a "home."
Also...there's this, and I couldn't have said it better myself.
A few steps further on, there was a competition of homemade greeting cards. We liked this one.
Here's one for you woofie lovers.
Also, there was this:
So, those were all the pictures I took at the fair. Mike and I were there mainly for the quilts, and we didn't venture far beyond the Creative Living Center.
We had an overnight guest last night. He was here from Sacramento and had an early flight out. We were up at 4:00 a.m., and then, not really able to get back to sleep. It gives me a good segue for this next little bit though. I've tried not to talk too much about our diet because, frankly...booorrrrring. Nevertheless, thoughts of food, calories, and weight loss tend to dominate one's thoughts while dieting. I once read that dieting was like living your life breathing through a straw.
As I've mentioned before, we've been on the Cooking Light Diet. It hasn't really been too bad, and we've learned some things that I think will help us keep the weight off when we're finished with the diet proper. For one thing, we're eating regular meals instead of snacking on junk food whenever we feel any hunger pangs...so...real food at regular intervals is a lot healthier. Duh. Anyway...as of this morning I'd lost 20 lbs., and I'm feeling pretty darned good about that. I'll tell you this too: being able to fit into some clothes that have been hanging in the closet unworn for years has been a great motivator.
So, all of that to say that one guilty pleasure we've allowed ourselves is our afternoon cup of espresso with a little bite of chocolate. We especially love these Skinny Cow Divines. They are 45 calories each, and we've adamantly limited ourselves to one per day. If we ever stray from our one-per-day limit, then we'll have to stop buying them. (By the way, pay no attention to the calorie count at the bottom there. Originally, they came three to a package. Now they come packaged individually.)
Sadly, when I went to the grocery yesterday, there were none on the shelf. Apparently, they're popular with my fellow shoppers too. So, I decided to purchase a bag of the individually-wrapped Dove chocolates. I chose the dark chocolate with almonds.
But I like Mike's even better:
So that's all the news I have for you today. I am going to get some sewing time today. It's also a day to pick a goal for OMG in September.
Since this is the month we start our big trip, I'm keeping my goal simple. As I mentioned a few days ago, I'd really like to make progress on each of my WIP's before we leave. I still need to finish two more blocks for Mulligan Stew, and then I'll have just one more project on the list. With that in mind, my goal for September is to complete the March block for Tuxedo Tales.
If I can get that one finished before we leave, I'll feel as if I've left the sewing room in good shape.
And now...it's time for one of those regular meals...breakfast. September 1st is the date I picked to get serious about organizing and packing for our trip. Time's growing short.

What kitty whimsy! You've both done very well on the diet and a little treat for the day is certainly working for you.
I love anything by Skinny Cow !!!
I love the Dove 'fortunes'! I've been known to plan my life around a fortune cookie. The willpower to only eat one is what I lack, though, alas. The odd 'collections' were the thing I found most fascinating at the Illinois State Fair when we visited there. People were given blue ribbons for assortments of clutter that I threw away long ago -- things like free pencils from various companies, mcdonald's happy meal toys, assortments of tea cups, just the oddest little collections. If only I'd known, by now I could also have entered a State Fair Ribbon collection! Ah the lost dreams . . .
I would hate to see how many shelves it would take for my cat collection, lol. I really need to whittle it down. Love the cast iron cats, I have a few. Love the tuxedo patterns, those are fun.

Oh, you made me miss my two cats who are now in Cat Heaven...
Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your blocks!
You are such a terrific organizer, I'm sure you will have no trouble getting your packing done for your trip in short order. You've been anticipating and planning your adventure for a long time a it's all categorized in your head. Once you begin assembling things it will all flow together. Yo Go Girl!!!
20 pounds is awesome! Congratulations!
Yay for you on losing 20 lbs! I think you deserve a little piece of chocolate! I think it's fair to say you saw some interesting things at the Fair. I do like being owned by a cat; however, not when I forget to put food in his bowl and he reminds me around 3 am. Hope you get that cat nap in!
Congrats on losing 20 pounds. I love reading your post every morning with my coffee. The fair pics were great and I envy your quilting skills. Aside from that my hubby and I are looking forward to your travel notes. We traveled for 8 years full time all around our beautiful country. Have a great time, travel safe.
Weird.
Respectfully,
Molly
P.S. Why C&H Sugar...No?
I really like that catty needlework piece. The black cat adds such dimension. I've been relying on dark chocolate as my "treat" while trying to loose weight the last year. Sometimes you just need that little bit of sweet. Congrats on all the weight loss. It's fun to go to the closet and pull out something you haven't worn in a couple of years.
Very interesting display of black cats! Love the signs! That is a fun afghan! Congrats on the weight loss and will power to only eat one!
Hmmm, a very odd little cat collection indeed. Makes me wonder what it was all about, fair-ly speaking that is.
Congrats on losing those 20 lbs! Very proud of you. Isn't it fun to be able to "shop" in your own closet?
