Project Quilting: A Well Dressed Man

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, the theme of this challenge left me cold initially. I've participated in every challenge this season, however, and I didn't want to break my streak. So as I worked on finishing up the Bee Lovely quilt, I gave some thought to the well dressed men I've known in my life.

Of course, I thought of every girl's first love, her father:

My dad was home for my birth, but he was deployed shortly thereafter. When he came back, of course, I didn't know him. My folks loved telling the story of 7-month-old me crawling into the bathroom to stare suspiciously at the stranger in our bathtub.

Certainly, I thought of my brother. My hero. Sadly, he passed away in 2003.

He was riding me around on the two-wheeler I received for my birthday that year because I couldn't ride it by myself yet.

And I can't leave out my grandfathers. This is my maternal grandfather. I only met him one time when I was seven, and he passed away shortly thereafter. It was a good one-and-only meeting. He was a dairy farmer, and I spent a solid week with him tagging around while he did his chores. Although I barely knew him, I have good memories of the week we spent together.

And this man, my paternal grandfather. He lived well into his 90's and I have very good memories of him when I was growing up. We spent a lot of time together camping, fishing, and roasting marshmallows. He was a bit of a prankster, but all in very good fun. It makes me smile thinking of some of his antics.

And then there's my son, Erik, all dolled up on his wedding day here. They wore Oregon State orange and black.

And here's my other son, Matthew, on his 29th birthday.

Finally, there's this guy...the love of my life and my partner for nearly 42 years. This is such a great picture.

Mike looks as if he wishes he'd stayed in bed that morning, while I look like the cat that swallowed the canary.

Speaking of cats, here's a Man Cat, always immaculately dressed in fur, and with tastefully-coiffed whiskers.

Or how about this cat dressed in a sweater, a "just because" missal from my friend Sue.

So, in all of that, I thought about men and good taste, and how (family aside) certain men just make a woman feel downright hungry.

And that's when I got the idea for my project...so here he is...my own idea of A Well Dressed Man:

Doesn't he look tasty? Admit it...he makes you hungry, doesn't he? It's hard to avoid salivating over a man of such impeccable taste.

"Yummy" is the word I'd use to describe him. He has buttons for his, um, abs. The dots of icing on his cuffs are from hot fix nailheads, as are the dots of his eyes. I quilted a wavy line around his hunky body...think of it as icing. Also, I quilted a couple of little gingerbread men in the corners of the quilt.

Here's his backside. You gotta love a man who looks delectable from the rear.

So...after all that, you might want a cold shower. Or maybe just a cup of coffee.

In other sewing news, I've made my way nearly all the way across the bottom of the latest Hocuspocusville block.

I'll do a little more on it today, but tomorrow I'll be setting it aside temporarily while I move on to Millicent, the next of the Bag Ladies of the Fat Quarter Club.

Cat Patches

If you're stitching along with the rest of the bag ladies, be sure to join in the linky party. It's a lively group, so come prepared to share in the fun.

You crack me up with your sly humor. I absolutely love your well dressed "man!" Perfect! And your wedding picture is too cute. Yeah, Mike looks like " uh what just happened?" and you look like "I pulled it off! I'm married! He's mine forever!" Lol

Only you would come up with a gingerbread MAN cookie as your well dressed choice. And here, I was thinking I would see some hunkie thing...lol. You have a grand collection of men in your life to love. Good job!

Hysterical! I rarely laugh out loud (lol) but that made me do it. You've a talent for quilts and funny. I like the little dark margin you gave him for depth, great detail.

Thanks for the smiles and a chuckle or two. Even though we have had sunshine and beautiful weather, I have been feeling blue all day! Your grand father was a well dressed gentleman farmer! I dost my maternal grandfather when I was 6. I have few memories of him and most of them are in the county courthouse where he was a justice of the peace. Your well dressed man looks very yummy!

Oh, Barbara, you are such a comic! I was so interested in reading about all the wonderful men in your life, and I actually did get a little "hungry" when I gazed at the model, but then the gingerbread man just cracked me up! Thank you so much for giving me the giggles as you so often do.

I'm late with this comment as I fell behind a little in my blog-reading in my Spanish time zone. But I certainly did enjoy looking at all the well -dressed men in your family. Your Mike looks pretty good and you're right about your expression. Also, I note that you have the same hairstyle (sort of) now.
