The Little Quilter that Could

When I went into the sewing room yesterday, I had just two flowers left to make. I heard myself echoing the Little Engine that Could saying, "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..."

With that one finished, there was just one more...and there it is!

I thought I could, I thought I could, I thought I could! Here they are! The spoils my war with the flowers on display for all to see.

There was still top-stitching to do, and I went straight to work on that too.

The Fearsome Flowers are Finally Finished! (Awesome alliteration.) Yes, I said "fearsome" instead of another F word.

This was all accomplished under the disapproving glare of my little cat. He's very unhappy about the cold weather.

After getting the last flowers finished, I decided to work my way down the list of cut pieces. This was not an easy task, let me tell you.

Um, do you think you could...

possibly...

move a little to the right?

Just a little more please...

Okay, and so all the different rectangles, squares, and triangles are cut and identified.

All that's left to do now is sew these squares into half-square triangles.

Also, I've cut the long bias strip that will be used for the stem. I'll also fuse and cut out the leaves. Then, all the pieces will be made. I'll set everything aside for now and start sewing them together in a couple of months. Take a look at this assembly diagram. Every one of those pieces is made now. I haven't counted them, but I'm estimating there are hundreds to sew together.

It will be great to have all the pieces made, and then I'll just cross my fingers, hoping it all goes together as it's supposed to.

It was pretty outside yesterday with beautiful blue sky and crunchy, white snow. There's a thin layer of ice over the snow. And let me tell you, it was effing cold out.

I was out filling the bird feeders and trading the hummingbirds a thawed feeder for their frozen one...something I'll need to do again today. Look at all these little birdie footprints. I know they appreciate the seed we're putting out for them.

The wind was howling last night, and continues into today. Also, there's no sunshine. We've warmed up to a whopping 24°F., but the wind chill takes us down to 18°F. Now, I know some of you have colder temperatures than that, but it's pretty unusual to get that cold here in the land between the Cascades and the Pacific Ocean. Burr.

I'll make my half square triangles today, and then I'm going to attempt to sew together Wind in the Whiskers. Also, the next block for the Solstice Challenge is out today. I'll get that one finished. Mine are seasonal, and I have some cute fabric to commemorate the New Year.

What's going on in your sewing room today?

Congratulations on finishing up those flowers! I look forward to following along on this quilt's journey to completion ....thanks for sharing!
Here in Virginia, we are supposed to have a low of 8 degrees on Sunday night!! Yikes!! I hope the forecast changes before then.... That is quite a bit below what we usually see here.

Oh yeah, I eel your pain. It is 16 degrees here today, lord only knows what the wind chill is. All I know is that my car doors and windows are frozen shut. Which I see as divine insistence that I stay snuggled up inside. :)

A gold star for finishing those flowers! And with everything cut (thanks to the helper), the rest will go together - fingers crossed. We are cold, windy, icy, and snowy. There will be a 'clearing' come the weekend and I so need to get out of here.

Applause from here for you. Great feat accomplished. Snow on the way here too.

That is a lot of piecing, you have a lot more patience than I do.
I wish we would get a little snow, just cold and rain, at least in the snow I can get out.

Yeah! You did it! I knew you could. Now the putting it all together, well that will be for another day. As Scarlet said' after all tomorrow is another day! Brr it looks so cold in your picture. It has turned cold here in North Texas as well but not close to yours. I think it will be 32 tonight so that is pretty cold for Texas, but it usually doe not last very long. I can't wait to see the wind in the whiskers together!! So exciting!

Congratulations on finishing the FFF flowers, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have pushed through them. We are having a cold front come through it's going down to 78 degrees, LOL.

Yay! The flowers are done! Soon it will be done! I'm happy dancing for you as I sit in my chair (ha)! I finally made my solstice block, it was easy but I changed my mind on fabric a couple of times. You'd think I could just be decisive about something. Sheesh. Wendy at piecefulthoughts@gmail.com

Fantastic! (My f word for you) you are completing a lot of flimsies. Her in the SF Bay Area we had a nice rain. We have a small break before a humongous rain this coming weekend. We look forward to our reservoirs filling.

My sewing room is seeing me finishing the muslin to a dog sweater (I felted an old red cashmere sweater for the final garment). Granddog is so spoiled. I am a finishing up a ball gown for my daughter to go to a formal affair. I still have hubby's blue quilt to finish quilting. Next I prepare for our ASG sewing retreat in two weeks. That's always a fun event. Love being in my sewing room.

Fabulous fearsome finished flowers! Congrats on getting all the prep work done. You'll wip that garden quilt out in no time when it's time comes. It's cold here, but we didn't get snow. If it is going to be this cold, there should be snow!
