October Goals and Progress Report

It's that Uh-Oh time of year where time seems to speed up for a while. Most of us have obligations of some kind related to the holidays, and it doesn't leave a lot of sewing time. Alternatively, if you're the kind to make handmade gifts for the holidays, maybe all your time is taken up with sewing. In any case, we all have stuff on our to-do lists at this busy time of year. Before I talk about the to-do's, let me tell you about the ta-da's. (Did you see what I did there?) Here's what was on my to-do list for September:

Quilting and Flimsies

1. Quilt and Bind the "Written in Thread" wallhanging. This one is small, and so it should be easy to get it finished. Complete!

This will be my project for

2. Put a binding on my finished free motion quilting sampler. Complete!

Monthly Challenges

Nothing new under the sun here. I'll just continue with the challenges for

3.

For September I chose this Pumpkin Patch table topper. It still needs quilting, but finishes aren't required for Let's Book It. That makes this goal Complete!

4.

Make a block in September's rose red color choice. Complete!

5. Try to get it right this time with September's block for

Complete!

WIP's

6. My goal is to finish the last section for Wind in the Whiskers. Complete!
And that is my biggest Ta-Da! I started this quilt on August 29, 2013, and you know I've whined and moaned about it plenty. It feels pretty darned good to have all the sections finished.

For bonus points, I wanted to get a start on my newest McKenna Ryan pattern, "And On that Farm". It starts with the largest block called "With a Big Quilt Here and a Small Quilt There".

My goal was to "get a start" on it, and so my Bonus Points project is Complete!

And that means:

It's the month of orange! But don't let that fool you. We're going to be using lots of color here at the Three Cats Ranch. Let's see what's on the list for October.

Quilting and Flimsies

1. Cats of a Different Color has waited long enough for quilting. To the cats I say, this is your month!

This is my goal for

2. Make a Flimsy from the blocks for Gingerbread Square. This is the image from the pattern cover, and I have some perfect fabrics in my stash to use for this quilt.

Monthly Challenges

3. I have a project planned for

There was a sewing room wide search for this book. I looked, and looked, and looked, and I couldn't find it. It is a thin book, and it slid between some others on my bookshelf. It's one of the first books I purchased as a new quilter, and now I'm determined to give this collage technique a try.

4. I'm still trying to keep up with the blocks for each month's

RSC16

and so I'll make a block to represent October's color choice.

WIPS

5. Finish what I started for the first section of "And On That Farm".

6. Make another row of blocks for the Hobo Quilt. Another row will put me at 30 blocks and halfway finished.

7. Make the next block for "It's Raining Cats and Dogs". The next block will be the one right in the middle of the quilt pictured below.

If I can finish all of that, I'll be ready to earn some

If I can finish all of that, I'll quilt the Pumpkin Patch table topper I finished last month (pictured above).

I'm breaking out the candy corn now. What's on your list for October?

Barbara, all of these are wonderful! I can't decide which one I like best but it might be the pumpkin table topper. I am in the mood for a good autumn quilt!!

You had a pretty productive September. Didn't you have a trip in there too? Wow, you did really well. Good luck with your October goals.

You've had an amazing month and I think you are getting a little cocky. The October list seems a bit daunting . . . Can't wait to see the Happy Villages, that looks like an interesting project to me. I am working on simple gifty stuff. Another table runner in the works and a couple more pillow cases and a no-sew fleece blanket ready to wrap, plus lots of stuff cut out and giving me the evil eye.

Whew! I hope you've put the canner away for the season and have meals all prepped and waiting in the freezer. Sounds like you're not planning to leave the sewing room in October!

Not sure if I said before, but love the striped binding on your FMQ sampler! Congrats on all you got done for last month and good luck for this month too. I imagine there will be less canning this month, so that's more sewing time, right?

You had a fabulous September even with travels and canning mixed in. October has a wonderful mix of fun.

The Happy Villages has my eye. It is definitely a quilt that I will watch you build with the 3Cat Ranch touch.

I like your style! Great Finishes. Have fun with your Cats this month. I made one similar. Are they from Pam Buda? The Houses/Barns with quilts on them is very cool, don't tempt me with the location of that pattern.
