Quilt Shop: Stitch 'n Snip; Garden Valley, Idaho

As you might imagine, I was thrilled to find a quilt shop is the tiny town of Garden Valley, Idaho (pop. 394, as of the 2010 census).

It was off the main highway and up a rather steep and winding hill. We were getting a little nervous about towing our big rig up there when I saw it off to the right. It's a long narrow store.

There was a large parking lot just outside and also some parking around the side of the building. The owner/employee was as friendly and welcoming as she could possibly be. I marveled that a quilt shop existed in such a tiny community. She informed me they get a lot of business from Boise, some 50 miles away, and that many retreats are held there. There will be two retreats during the month of September alone.

As you come through the front door and look to the right, you see this. The shop is narrow with some small rooms heading off in different directions, and there was a surprising amount of fabric and other merchandise ram packed into a relatively small space.

Just inside the front door and to the left was a display of their row-by-row pattern, the camper, along with a quilt they'd made using their block. They had a number of kits made up for the full quilt and they also had some fat-quarter bundles that would make "x" number of blocks, depending on which bundle you bought.

There was fabric for everybody here, including lots of prints of children, novelty prints,

batiks,

and a a good supply of neutrals (I see some leftovers from the Vintage Tin line there in the upper left).

Also, there was an excellent supply of thread and other notions, and I'm sure those are appreciated by seamstresses and quilters alike.

These "Dazzle" threads caught my eye. There is already so much thread at home that I passed these by. On a different day, my powers of restraint might have been weaker.

Also, there was a room devoted to wool fabrics

and yarn, along with other knitting supplies.

This sweatshirt gave me a chuckle.

She had a good supply of books and patterns and quite a few quilt kits.

Also, a good supply of my new favorite rulers, Creative Grids. I'm glad to see these making their way into the quilt shops.

As I was leaving, I took note of the sign above the door.

And, of course, I couldn't go without picking up their row-by-row pattern

and this regional print to add to my circle quilt of quilt shops I've visited. These fishing lures reminded me of the sign we'd seen along the river on the drive up: "Anglers: You're entering bull trout country!"

For their friendly and welcoming service, their wealth of merchandise, and a generally lovely shop, I give Stitch 'n Snip my highest rating of five rotary cutters.

Definitely stop in if you find yourself in Garden Valley. And just go to Garden Valley! You'll love the scenic drive and their lovely little community.

What a nice shop to find - even if it was a bit scary getting the rig there! More campers - yay!!

Glad you found Stitch 'n Snip. I, too, was amazed that there was enought business in that small town to support a quilt shop. A lot of Boise Valley folks have summer homes and/or vacation in that area, so they do have a good customer base. I think they have an online business as well. So sorry to hear about your travel troubles, but hope you did find time to go to the Snake River Birds of Prey area.

I knew you would get the camper row and the fishing lures are a great addition to the impending quilt.

That looks a fabulous shop. Now how did we all know you'd get the camper row by row. The fishing lure is a fun fabric

I like their 'row' I have seen a lot of campers in this years offerings. Looks like a great shop. I have been to several great quilt shops in little towns in Texas that did not even have a market!
