Sadie's Bad Day

Poor Sadie. It was her day (yet again, I imagine her thinking) to be crated up and driven to the vet. If you missed my post from a few days ago, we're trying to deal with the ghastly emissions from her tail pipe.

Oh wow. Bummer, Sadie. Sometimes cats who go in this box never come back again. It's been nice knowing you. Not.

She was quite a handful for the vet. It took three people to hold her down while they gave her two kinds of medicine. Turns out she has both tapeworm and round worms. She was tested for other less common parasites as well. The vet gave her a good once over and pronounced her in good health otherwise. She's advised us to give her just one kind of food until her tummy troubles settle down. I have to think getting rid of the parasites will be a big help. She was wormed at the shelter before we brought her home, but apparently, it wasn't enough.

Since I know some will ask, the answer is no, there is no risk of parasites to Smitty. Both kitties have been treated for fleas and they are both flea free. Fleas are the intermediate host, and so the vet assured me that he was not at risk. Also, she mentioned that she thought Sadie's coat would thicken and grow more lustrous over time. I've noticed her coat is rather coarse and thin, but it already looks better from when we first brought her home. Finally, I inquired about Sadie's short tail. The vet says she was born with that tail and that she is part Manx. While the tail hasn't seemed to cause her any discomfort, I was still relieved to know that it wasn't caused by injury.

By this fall she should be pretty as a picture. And that reminds me, the fabric I ordered came yesterday, and I think this is going to be just fine for her pawtrait. I've also written to my friend Sally to inquire of a couple of the "hunks" she offered up. With this and a good supply of blacks and golds, I think we'll be able to get 'er done.

So.....this pawtrait business...does it require nude modeling?

Because I am under age you know.

And even if I wasn't, I don't remove my fur coat for just anyone.

As you might guess, Smitty was disgusted by this whole conversation.

You know...she's one of those street walker cats...and I heard that she has a litter somewhere. These street walker cats are all alike.

Oh yes, and before we depart from the cats, I wanted to give you an update on my grandkittens. Erik and Mae finally were able to bring home the litter mate of their new kitten. I'm not sure if they're named yet, but they look happy to be reunited.

So aside from taking Sadie to the vet, I did laundry and caught up on my housework. There was no sewing accomplished beyond the hand stitching I did yesterday morning. It was good to take a break from the paper-piecing, but I'll have the day to get back to it today. Also, today is a CSA pick-up day, and so I'll be doing battle with the vegetables a little later on.

Block 9 for the Bee-utiful Quilt-A-Long is out as well. This one is called "Bee Fruitful".

Before sitting down to write this post, I took the time to trace it out. Now it's ready for stitching and that's where I'll be heading next.

It's a day for filling birdfeeders and checking the water levels on things. The kitty grass has been installed on the catio, but so far, both kitties have ignored it. Sigh.

Grass or no grass, the catio has become a big hit. We're finding both kitties out there on a regular basis. Smitty is still allowed out when we're out, but otherwise, they both stay indoors now. It isn't ideal for Smitty, but we feel we've made things as comfortable as we possibly can for both kitties.

Before I close, consider this your invitation to my Blogiversary Celebration tomorrow. Cat Patches will be six years old. And let me tell you, no one is more surprised than I am that I'm still here blathering away after six whole years. It's hard to believe anyone could talk about nothing for so long, isn't it?

So as a thank you for sharing your knowledge, friendship, support, and encouragement over the years, I'll have a nice giveaway for some lucky person. Check back tomorrow for all the details.

Glad Sadie is on the mend from those awful worms. Hope it clears up quickly. Mr. Smitty needs to give the gal a break for being a street walker, where did you find him? Isn't he sort of the same? Just guessing. Love the fabrics you picked for Sadie's pawtrait, she will look amazing in those colors. 6 years, that is fantastic and I've enjoyed all your blog posts. Thanks for continuing.

Maybe Sadie's bad day wasn't so bad after all - sounds like things will improve a lot for her now. GORGEOUS pawtrait fabrics and such a good photo of Smitty scowling. Happy blogversary - and here's to MANY more!

I have to tell you, Barbara, your blog is in my top three favorites! Here's to the coming six years - you just keep blathering away. Love all the stories about Smitty and the gang; his expressions are worth a thousand words! Your grandkittens are adorable. And love your trials, successes, etc. with quilting - I can sure relate to them.

Happy Early Blogaversary! I always read your blog even when I don't comment, it's kinda like hearing from the home family. Those grandkittens of yours are positively adorable, I'm sure their pawtraits will be on your list of future ones to capture in fabric. I think I still have some small pieces of gray/black/gold batiks. Let me know if you think you'll need to expand your fabric choices for Sadie's pawtrait.

What could be better than a blog about quilts and cats? Two subjects very near and dear to my heart! Good to know that Sadie's purroblem wasn't something more serious.

We had to take Moki a few weeks ago, it took both of us, with a lot of shoving to get him in a cage, lol. I think we need a larger cage for him, he is a monster. Lots of love and good care and she will blossom into the kitty she was meant to be.

I predict we will have fun watching Sadie fatten up over the next few months. Glad to know that Smitty is in no danger of contamination -- you would never hear the end of it.

So glad Sadie is going to be good as new and that Smitty is in danger of getting worms from her. I thought she might be part Manx when I first saw her tail. What I want to know is if Sadie and Smitty meow all the way there and back again. All my cats have/do.

It looks to me like you have several poses that would work for her pawtrait.

Looking forward to seeing Sadie's pawtrait. Love the fabrics you chose. I think I have some of the middle fabric, actually! Once again, I've enjoyed the chuckles from your posts. Happy Blogiversary!

Yours is the first email I open each morning. Between the cats, sewing, quilting, walking, and the weekly CSA run, I don't know how you do it! And now you have Grandcats! Whee!

Double whammy worms - eeuuwww poor lass.
Mind you not sure how vet can decide shes part Manx, unless the rescue had had her birth history of course.
If she were Manx and thus short tailed, surely the end of the tail would be like any ordinary cats tail - end, and not have the thickened bit?
Anywhich ways, shes extremely cute, despite her windy nether end lol

Sorry Sadie has those nasty worms. Hopefully she won't be a host for much longer. She is a very pretty kitty.

So sorry Saddie but sometimes being a good parent means taking care of the fur babies even if that means a trip to the vet and some medicine. I'm sure you will thank her once you feel better.
