June Goals and Progress Report

May turned out to be a busy month with lots of unplanned agenda items. Many of my goals were accomplished, but not all of them. Let's see how I did.

Quilting and Flimsies

1. Finish making a flimsy from Mumm's the Word. Complete!

2. Quilt the Yard Art quilt. Complete!

WIP's

3. Finish the final four blocks for the Live, Love, Teach quilt. Complete!

4. Complete another five blocks for the "Hobo Quilt". Complete!

5. Complete the next block for "It's Raining Cats and Dogs". In Progress.

6. Complete the next section for "A Quiltmaker's Garden," which is a project I love to hate. It's going to be a great quilt, but it sure has been a pain in the neck to work on it. Prepare yourself for commensurate whining. No Progress. And, honestly, is it any wonder this one got short shrift?

Monthly Challenges

7. Make the next colored block for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. May's color is evergreen green with brown accents. Complete!

For Let's Book It, I took a class based on the work of Ruth McDowell's work and taught by Ann Shaw. I've had a number of Ruth McDowell's books in my library for years, but this was my first time trying her method. This is just one of her books:

Complete! May's blocks were made in pairs.

If all goes well, I'll get a start on another "pet pawtrait". This time I'll be making a pawtrait of my friend Marei's dog, Scooter. Here's a picture Marei posted on Facebook, and I think it's detailed enough for my purposes.

Like I said, No Progress.

So, okay. I didn't close the deal, but it was a good try. Moving on to June.

With a few additions and changes, I'm going to continue on where I left off during June. Let's see what's on my list.

Quilting and Flimsies

1. At long last, I'm going to finish up the 56 quilt blocks for the Live, Love, Teach quilt. During June, I'll be sewing them together, and then quilting it with some simple straight line quilting. After that, it will be on its way to my friend Lisa.

2. Also, I want to make the Pet Pawtrait of Scooter the dog, pictured above. This is a Pay it Forward gift for my friend Marei's husband Bill. I want to get it finished so that we can take it with us when we visit Marei and Bill in September.

WIP's

3. This month, I plan to pay the piper and pick up with the next section for A Quiltmaker's Garden, pictured above. Just because I didn't finish it in May doesn't mean I've given up on it. Hopefully, I can move it along in June.

Monthly Challenges

4. 

Make the next block for the Wheel Estate quilt using the color for June. These blocks are great fun to make. The blocks I have so far are pictured above.

5. 

For June, I was looking for a simple patriotic table runner for the 4th of July, and I found just what I was looking for in this book. 

I believe this is the first book I ever purchased when I learned to quilt. It's compiled by the editors of Creative Publishing. I've made a number of the projects in the book, but I haven't looked at it in years. For June, I'd like to make this simple table topper. What could be simpler than a good old nine patch?

When Mike and I go out for dinner, we always take a bottle of wine from home. Lately, we've been carrying it in this lovely (snicker) little bag...and it is so, um, hideous that it embarrasses me to be seen in its company.

Nice, huh? And so PINK! It practically screams "TACKY" at you. The worst part is that it's made from stiff burlap and so it can't be folded, spindled, or mutilated. When we were at The Painted Lady restaurant last month, they actually offered to remove it from the table for us. Think I'm kidding? I'm not.

So while there, I told Mike I was going to make something a little less cringe worthy in the form of a bag that could actually be rolled up and stashed in a pocket...something like these seen on the allpeoplequilt.com website. And I'm motivated enough to get this done that it'll encourage me to finish all my other goals for June. (Strategizing. The woman is always strategizing.)
