I mean, if you think about it, I could probably run a marathon if I had about five years to finish. If I were immortal, I could probably swim the Pacific Ocean. For today, I'll stick with flamingos and palm trees, but I'm putting the Pacific Ocean swim on my to-do list. My very long to-do list.
All that was left yesterday was to top-stitch their bodies and their legs.
And then, just so you know I'm not kidding about finishing them, I laid them all out on my design floor.
Here are the fabrics I'll use to finish the top.
This was started during the Dark Ages, when I actually followed the instructions in the book and cut the strips for the borders and binding at the beginning. The binding is cut three inches wide! I'll have to cut those strips down because, these days, I always make my bindings 2 1/4 inches wide. I don't know how I'd use three inch strips at this point. How wide do you make yours?
But that's not all that was going on in the sewing room yesterday. It seems that Miss Maggie found her way to the catnip stash. That would account for her glassy-eyed stare.
What's up, Maggie? You're looking weird.
Oh, whoa, Man. Nothing...really nothing... I've just been thinking about something. Get this, Smitty: "Every one of us is in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies, you will not find another." Yeah. That's a quote from my main man, Carl Sagan. Deep, man. Deep.
Maggie, what's going on with you. I've never seen you like this before.
I've simply discovered the meaning of life, Smitty. "We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other. To meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. A little parenthesis in eternity." And that was my other main man, Paulo Coelho. Yeah. Cosmic travelers...you and me, Smitty.
What a minute...I KNEW IT! You've been into the catnip, haven't you? You have to use this stuff responsibly, Maggie. Good grief. This stuff is strong...I mean, it's organic! AND gluten free!
How much did you use?
Did you know there are as many atoms in a single molecule of your DNA as there are stars in the galaxy? We are, each of us, a little universe. Whoa.
I mean, just look at the cats in this quilt. So many colors!
Maggie, Maggie, Maggie. Those are just my mom's weird color choices. I think we're going to have to sit here for a while so that you can come around. Geez. You have to go easy on that stuff. It can blow your mind.
And there you have it. If you don't talk to your cat about catnip, who will?
