Now Hear This
This announcement seemed important enough to give it its own blog post. I encourage you to read this latest announcement from Blogger Buzz about changes coming to Google Friend Connect.
Frankly, I wasn't aware the Google Friend Connect was even active any more, but I've kept it in my left sidebar just the same. I just love looking at your smiling faces, you know? Nevertheless, beginning in January, Google will remove the ability for people with Twitter, Yahoo, Orkut or other OpenId providers to sign in to Google Friend Connect and follow blogs. If you fall into that category of readers, you will need to sign up for a Google Account, and re-follow this blog and any others you might be following via Google Friend Connect.
This whole announcement doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but maybe it will make sense to some of you. The bottom line is that if you start missing us here at Cat Patches, that might be the reason. If you're unsure, consider following via one of the other methods listed there in my left side bar. You're all valued friends, and I'd hate to lose you.

I follow you on Bloglovin, so much easier ;-)
And I follow you on Feedly. Easy!
Oh, boy.....another challenge to figure out. LOL. I don't even know how to link to FB. Bloglovin' and Feedly mirror our blogs, not a direct connect, that much I know. I know I already lost a few followers. Guess I will brace for the avalanche. Thanks for the heads up.
Okay...so I really like GFC but have noticed that has fallen to the wayside. Luckily....I keep three categories of blogs I love and follow on my sidebar. (FOr me...blogging is my only social media, so when I;m at my blog I like to have access to everyone who inspires me) BUT! I've noticed GFC is not being the way to follow any more...which is a bummer cause my that is my second place to follow. OH my....2016 should be interesting...but now worries girl...you are on my sidebar! Bam!
Hmmm...that is probably how I follow all the blogs, but, I DO have a Google account, since you have to, to have a blogger account. Interesting.
Thanks for sharing that announcement. Not sure what it means, but I guess we'll all find out on January 11.
I noticed the drop of followers. Since you have to have a Google account to open a blog - there shouldn't be a problem with a lot of the folks I keep up with. It's the open ID people that are going to get culled.
More of Google's relentless march for internet domination, I'd love to know how this makes the experience better. Next step will probably be that you have to have a Google + account which will turn everyone to no reply. This could be the death knell for some blogs and blog readers.
I have Google Friend Connect on my sidebar, but I don't even know what it is...
Google is already bouncing comment notifications for any commenters with non-gmail email addies, trying to blackmail us into switching exclusively to them for all our internet needs. (I leave comments that aren't responded to, because the blog-owner doesn't get notified that I commented. It's a lonely life...)
I don't have a blog. The blogs I follow, I do so by email. What I have found lately is that I can no longer comment via OpenID which I have via Yahoo. When I use the open Id option, it never publishes it--it keeps cycling back to the preview/publish option. Goodle seems to have hijacked it. I do have a Google account (not by choice) so when all else fails or there is no anonymous option, I end up having to go the Google route or not leave a comment.
I have never heard of Google Friend. I, too, use Feedly.
